God, I hate it when people turn things around on you.

I told him at least three or four times in fifteen minutes that I thought the discussion we were having was going to lead to negativity and could not have a positive outcome, and that he should talk to the people concerned instead of talking about them.
Did he believe that I feared the outcome of the conversation? NO, he said, "well, I can see you want to end this conversation because you're not interested in the topic."
After I got over that one, I tried to tell him that I was frustrated because he wasn't listening to my reasons. I said, "I'm very frustrated with you." Immediately: "No. You're frustrated with yourself." HELL NO I DON'T THINK SO.

Eventually the conversation ended because he walked away. (He'd decided that I had rolled my eyes at him. Perhaps that's new terminology for "staring straight at the chair beside him," because that's what I had been doing all along and hadn't changed.)

I HATE THAT. It's not like anyone knows me better than I do. But some people are just convinced that if they say it or think it, it must be true - no matter how little they know, how illogical it is, or whom they have to roll right over to get it their way.

it gives people comfort to think that they understand the world around them.

wouldn't it be hard and confusing to go through life feeling that you never know what people are thinking or how anything really works?

wouldn't that lead to major feelings of insecurity?

is the subtext here clear?

(this post is an expression of agreement)
