I've written fanfiction. There's a couple unfinished works on fanfiction.net, actually.

Nope...though when I was obsessed with Arda (Lord of the Rings universe) I planned writing some, had several ideas...One of them, I remember was to be set a few years after the War of the Ring, and it was to be about some powerful Maia previously allied to Melkor/Morgoth, unwittingly freed from his prison (no, he wasn't supposed to be a Balrog). I think I actually wrote the very beginning of the story but that was all I ever achieved

A little bit related, I did write a few poems (or they were more ought to be song lyrics I'd use if I'd ever manage to make some decent music) based also around Tolkien's books about Middle-Earth. Of these, only one still exists and it's as embarassing and bad as everything I've ever written, but I actually managed to make a song of it, but I never got to record the vocals so it's just the instrumental and lyrics separate and unconnected, the song was called "Lost Lothlórien" and had a sort of doom metal vibe to it. And no, it wasn't any good.

Well...I do enjoy reading fanfiction once in a while. There's some interesting stuff out there among all the crap. :)

I do and you can find my works under the link in my signature. I do mostly works from the X-Men universe - I decided on reviving TCP fanfiction which used to be quite popular more than a decade ago. These are fanfics about ordinary people being mutants in the world of Marvel, who don't cooperate with the characters introduced in the comics in any way but deal with their mutation on their own. I wrote also several fanfics on Sandman and Peter Pan and some other comic book or cartoon universes.

Send them a message that you started again, maybe some of them are still into HP and fanfiction.

I don't want to harass people, especially when it was 6 years back. I sent a message to the people who had reviewed up to 6 months back, but stopped there. Most of them are still on story alerts I think (about 200ish?) so they should still get the alert, unless they changed their email address. I do feel awfully guilty about some of them though... especially the ones who persisted for more than a year... But oh well, I think most of my old readers would have grown out of it by now/moved on.

Now I'm undecided... maybe I should... argh I don't know! I mainly wanted to finish the story for my own sake - I want to graduate to writing books, and I thought drawing up a proper chapter plan and finishing the fanfiction would be a good place to start.

So start from reviewing other people's fanfics and they will do the same for you - in this way you'll gather a new circle of faithful readers again.

Hmm well I haven't done that, but the traffic is starting to pick up again. I think it's been added to two more communities now, which is nice. :)

I love fanfic, it proves that no matter how twisted my mind becomes, there will always be people capable of more depraved imaginings. I've posted some fairly awful (in my opinion) stories on fanfiction.net, but only ever received positive feedback. I think if people don't like your work, they just don't read it, they don't bother sending negative feedback.

I saw negative feedback many times but it's only when one's work can't be classified otherwise than pure crap and even then there are some people found who praise it; strange but true. Give us the link to your FF.net profile. Anyway the writer can't judge their work objectively, I once posted a Sandman story with Mary Sues in and it was liked by others, even if I personally hated it.
