Tolkien was the scholarly type. He might have said, "Nonsense!" It's ironic; what good is a copyright when all it preserves is monetary value and not artistic integrity? If you could find more examples of this kind of decrepit use of copyrighted works, you might make a case that copyrights are no better than the public domain at preserving artistic integrity.
