This is a tangential example, one for a family rather than an individual person. It's a plaque in Durham Cathedral in the UK, commemorating someone from the 1400s whose later relatives became famous elsewhere:

He's American citizen by birth, so that doesn't make sense as an example.

Too tangential. After all, if we trace back to 1000 years, lots of famous people had ancestors in other countries as well. I heard that even John Kerry is a very indirect descendant of Ivan the Terrible.
But really, such a few examples, and mostly in performing arts?

A large majority of the metal I listen to consists of bands that are largely known outside their countries of origin.
