Despite my parents knowing for a long time that I've had Asperger's,they never told me. I remember showing symptoms since a young age.
I only found out when I recently read on a school form about my personal information that I had it.

At first I was surprised, I didn't really know what it was, just that it sounded pretty serious. At first I felt slightly relieved because it explained why I seemed different to other people no matter how hard I tried. Then to angry, as I felt that my parents were hiding something from me.

Recently, I confronted my Dad about not telling me. He said that he didn't want to give me a false impression of having something that didn't really affect me! To which I replied, "If you believed it was important enough for someone to diagnose me with and for you to tell my school then how come you don't believe it was important for me to know, the person who has it!".

I just took some online tests to see if it was mild and didn't really affect me.

My scores were:
Systematizing quotient -54(Very high), average is around 30 for men. 3 times as many people with Asperger's Syndrome score in the range 51-80, compared to typical men.
Empathy quotient-4, Very low,the average for males is about 42 and for Asperger's/ Autism it is around 20.
Autistic quotient test-37, Very high, most people with Asperger's syndrome are said to score around 35.

Though I think I would have scored a lot higher when I was younger. Is it normal to have symptons that show slightly less as you get older?

So how did you find out that you had Asperger's/Autism?

I was told that I had AS when I was 15, in the spring of '06. I can't believe it's almost been 5 years since then!

I was told when I was 12 and I was newly diagnosed then.

I think our symptoms get milder as we get older because we learn to cope and deal with things.

Well, when I was 5, but I thought that it meant I had psychic powers... The only reason why my mom even investigated me was because I was putting things in my mouth still that I wasn't supposed to and I didn't like looking in the eyes of people. I was so bright that my mother never really considered anything was wrong with me. I said my first words when I was 9 months...

I was diagnosed in the 8th grade, however many people before then said I had it. My uncle(on my moms side) had a friend who said that I had it. My aunt(on my dads side) also had a friend who said that I had it too(and she is a psychologist.)

Never diagnosed with Asperger's, would fit the bill though.

I was told I had autism when I was 16 by re-diagnosis, got diagnosed earlier at age 7 - parents never told me in fear that I wouldn't think i'd be like everyone else even though I knew something was off between me and rest of the world.

The crud was that everybody in my social circles knew about me being autistic, except me 8O.

My parents (father, in particular) were suspicious of it when I was five or six, but it had no impact on my academics and I got on okay with other kids (then), so they didn't believe in getting an official diagnosis. However, things went kind of "downhill" when I was about nine, and got officially diagnosed at age 10. I was told... probably about... 5 or 6 months later. So I was diagnosed in early 2006, told in mid-2006. Didn't really know what it was, though, until probably around 2007-2008.

I first found out 21 years ago, this month. Back in those days it was called Mild Autistic Tendencies. If I was diagnosed in the later half of the 1990s, my label would have come out as AS. I was diagnosed at 5 and a half in 1980. That was 30 years ago. Man, am I ever getting old.

I heard about AS after I graduated high-school around the time I started trying to get services from LRS(Louisiana Rehabilitation Services); my mom mentioned it to them & told me about it. When I was a toddler she had asked my general-practitioner if I could be autistic but he just laughed & said "Nick's just being Nick". I had been diagnosed as having Dyslexia & ADHD sense I was in kindergarten & when I had to get re-certified for it between 9th & 10th grade to keep receiving services; the psych thought I had AS but he couldn't officially diagnoses it. My parents didn't have me tested because they didn't think an official diagnoses would help anything & it would of been very expensive & stressful. No one mentioned anything about it to me till after I got out of high-school thou. My mom had researched it some & I researched AS a bit then but I didn't care or think much bout it then. I had a mental break-down when I was 20 & the 1st psych I saw also suspected I had AS but she couldn't officially test so she refereed me to someone else. AS was ruled out in favor of Schizoid Personality Disorder & I had about 10 other disorders diagnosed as well; every psych I seen sense all thought I had SPD & about 10 other disorders coexisting instead of AS. I've been having lots of problems on sites & I joined this place around the beginning of summer because I thought some of my problems were perhaps AS related or related to one of my other many diagnoses. I have head of a relationship between AS & Asexuality & I'm sort of a borderline asexual & some asexuals have mentioned this place before. I was looking for some place I could fit in & be accepted & I've seen to have found one. I don't have an official Aspergers diagnoses but after being here a while I'm almost positive I have it or have things that are extremely similar

I was 7 when I learned I had Asperger's. By that time kids already were starting to bully and harass me, so I thought it meant I was doomed to a horrible life of never being accepted by anyone. It kind of became a self-fulfilling prophecy from there.

My mom actually came really close to guessing it when I was 7 (the more I think about it, the more I realize I was one weird kid :P), but since so much of the emphasis was on "Asperger's children have trouble making and keeping friends", something I didn't have an issue with, she got thrown off the trail. I came across it when I was 13, had a good laugh at the name, and didn't read much into it at all for the same reason. I finally got diagnosed two months before I turned 19.
