Why do people worship celebrities like Princess Diana, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, especially after they die? I know a lot of people who are as sweet and lovely and humanitarian as those three, but they are often overlooked and treated as doormats. Is it because they were so charming and beautiful? It's like if someone has an angelic face and is charming and you put them on tv, along with some headlines of them doing humanitarian work, they are saints. I know people in my life who are so captivated by this imagery and automatically attach virtue to a pretty face but in real life they walk all over people. It's so frustrating...

I don't think there is anything wrong with liking a celebrity, but its like that celebrity represents a light for some people. Instead of looking inside of themselves they want other people to shine so they can take it from them. If that makes sense.

Don't know. I do like it when an old Audrey Hepburn movie shows up on the telly, but I don't have a shrine to her or any memorabilia. As for the other two, one was hyped for her glamorous appearance, and the other one committed suicide.

I'm obsessed with Johnny Depp, Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter, but although they inspire me, they are not my "light" and I don't view them as saints. Since I am Catholic, God is my light and I have more than enough saints to look up to.

I could care less about them, honestly.

Don't get me wrong-I'm not saying that its wrong to have certain celebrities you are a fan of. I myself am a fan of Audrey and really admire Diana, but I guess I just see it as hypocrisy in some people when they talk about what good people they were, and then walk over people who display those same qualities.

You could care less? Really?

That means you care.

Why do you care?

I thought this was gonna be a thread about historical hotties...

Oh well... I'll just say that I'm partial to the looks of Carla Bow.

Because they embodied a certain combination of sensuality, glamor and independence.

They be hot.

I like Audrey and Marilyn movies but I've never worshiped any of them. I don't think I've ever worshiped any celebrity. Sometimes I get interested in one famous person or the other with the intensity of a special interest but after a while I move on.

I like Marilyn, as well as the other "pin-ups" of that era.
They remind me that women obsess with thinness and fashion. Men on the other hand like the curvy, girly, women. Why else would they still buy posters of these women? Wouldn't guys just frame "Vogue" covers if that was the type of women they prefer??

Anyways, Since I'm married to a red-blooded American guy, I'm interested more about whay guys like than girls.

The ladies mentioned are all deceased---so perhaps that has lent a legendary status to them. Also, in my opinion those three ladies possessed class. And---they were all very well-known.

I think it's because they are considered symbols of grace and prestige. Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackie Kennedy, and Michelle Obama would also fit that description.
