I have noticed people on this forum have some pretty cool ideas and taste. Does anyone have and good ideas for Christmas presents in general, or, what was one of your favourite presents that you have received?

As you seem to be quit ""Arty"" :), have you heard of ""Ebru"" art before? its a pretty effective form of water art. A couple of examples:

I love this one due to its coloration :)

The mediums in this can be relatively endless, from paper art, to silk scarves.

Generally Enamel paint is used, sometimes metallic if ""Dipping"", like in this video:

With the metallic dipping/swirling, no ""size"" is needed. However with enamels a ""Size"" is best used to thicken the water slightly so as the enamel doesn't sink. Originally Carrageenan was used. However after mixing with water only has a shelf life of about a week, so many artists now use Methyl-cellulose, which has an indefinite life span.. Also Alum powder mixed in water and applied to certain materials is needed for the enamel to set on medium.. All are easy to get hold of and the ideas are somewhat endless. I am currently turning my garage into a multi-creative studio, and this is one area that has got me quit fascinated.. Also great gifts for Christmas/birthdays etc.. Or even a home based business :)

Thats so cool, i love how in the first video the colours sat so well of the surface, and the paint seems to adhere to the paper so well. The guitar was very cool. Wish i had a set up where i could do that. I was gonna photograph some ink in water for an image i was doing, seems kinda lame compared now!

It is pretty neat isn't it! :) set up wouldn't be too hard, even a shallow large Tupperware bowl would do the trick for starters :) I like the idea of photographing ink in water! I like the images you get when dropping some food dye in a glass of water with a frosted panel behind with a light... Will be interesting to see how your project turns out :) not lame one little bit! that's the beauty about creativity, sometimes things can turn out better than you imagined or exactly as you imagined :)

I can't watch those videos, but they remind me of marble art, which I used to love doing as a kid.

It was arty types of presents that used to be my favourites. As a kid I used to love those Get Set kits. I really liked the stamp art and the chocolate factory ones. I had a ton of fun with both of them. I used to collect stamps (the kind you press into an ink pad first). I also loved origami.

I wish I could get my enthusiasm for art back. I used to be pretty good at it. I remember when I was a kid, some doctor asked me to draw this Winnie The Pooh picture from the wall (to distract me). I drew it and he gasped and he looked straight to my mother and said, "It's exactly the same!! !!" and he said it several times and my mother was like, "Yeh, yeh".

Was that due to the music tracks?

Yes, i think the arty type of presents are the best, they have true meaning behind them. A part of you is connected to that creation :)

It sounds like you also have a gift in the arts.. :) I have a number of responses to this but the main one that keeps popping in my mind... is that no matter how ground down you can get in the world , you have a gift that is yours and can never be taken away, something unique to yourself.. Try not to be afraid of expressing that gift, even if it is just to yourself! ;)

...The best gift i received:

from family: Saxophone

to myself: A Hang ( a swiss made new instrument that makes the most amazing harmonic resonation: Here is an example of someone else playing the hang).

I absolutely cannot stand the sound of any metal drum. Any metal percussion instrument. Cymbals would be the only exception.

BUT!! I was in the subway the other day and the guy was playing one. It was a most beautiful sound.

Now, I know the name of it. :)

No worries zkydz hope you find a little inspiration :)

Also i get you on the high pitch tin sounds! but this really is different isnt it :).. Long before i was given a suspected diagnosis, i went to the first ever hang convention in England down south... Ironically the farmers son had a sever form of autism.. However when we started playing, he was transfixed by them.. He couldn't get enough of them all weekend.. :)

Also did some recording with Pete Goodall... He used to play with the ""WHO"" and a few others. Someone at his studio heard the track and asked if he could use it for the autistic children he was looking after... Good response apparently :).... Three harmonics are produced at the same time creating the vibrational note. :)
