I thought you were going to say they'd removed the X so that nobody could write Xmas any more. Some Christians wrongly think that it removes Christ from the word and that therefore they shouldn't write Xmas. Actually the early Christians used an X to represent Christ, so it's too fussy.

When I was a kid we had a play at school where kids were dressed like the phrase "Merry Christmas!", each wearing the letters on their costume. But the "I" has mysteriously gone missing, and it's made Santa very worried and upset. But then the exclamation point says she can take the I's place just by turning herself upside down. (she just turned the ! on her costume upside down, she didn't stand on her head or whatever lol). But then the real I shows up, and it turned out she had a taken a trip down south because she had gotten tired of the North Pole always being cold.

Anyway, it was was a pretty cute and creative idea for a play. :)
