I know its not something I can or should try to control, but it upsets me quite a bit when people close to me change what they look like, my mum had a hair cut and I was freaked out for about a week and was unnerved every time I looked at her

my friend put make up on and changed her hair and its like she was a stranger, I am sure it must be something to do with having poor face recognition, but any change like that really unnerves me I almost don't know them anymore.

One of my coworkers changed her haircut drastically recently. It's actually totally cute and I love it, but I keep not realizing it's her at first and having to recalculate her identity (it's been a couple of weeks and it's still happening). Maybe that's what's bothering you.

It's like if cartoon characters all changed hairstyles and clothing. You wouldn't be able to tell who's who any more.

I believe that's what I don't like about it definitely, if you live with the people and suddenly are not able to recognise them instantly its quite strange.

You actually said that in your second paragraph. Sorry, I missed it the first time! But I can sympathize anyway.

that's ok, its nice others can understand :) my friends don't seem to share/understand the problem, nor do my family, which does not bother me but it can be difficult when I get angry about my mums new hair cut

I would say I have the opposite problem. I often have problems telling people from each other and noticing changes in their clothes, hairdo, etc. unless it is drastic ("oh, you dyed your hair blue!"). People often say that I don't care about them since I didn't comment on that oh-so-important change I didn't even notice. So I don't really share your problem but I think I understand it :)

I don't know what to tell you other than that people do tend to change their appearance from time to time, so...yeah. It happens. Not everyone likes to look the same all the time.

Still has the same hair as i had in 2000, clothes as well more or less.

Never change anything, only one type of hair cut and clothes will fit me.

I wont change clothes or anything, because some lunatics decide they think they can tell people what is hot or not.

I plan to keep my Mickish look and clothes for as long as possible. There's no reason for me to change anything about my clothes or my hair. Once you find something that works for you, you stick with it.

Not so sure about that...I've seen it happen here and there on a few animated shows, and was still able to recognize the characters quite easily.

Same here except, I haven't had many incidents where I get accused of not caring about them....a couple times I had to explain what I meant to clear up that I simply didn't notice and its not about not caring. I did think a picture of my brother was a picture of his friend the other day...but it was an older picture where he looks a lot like this friend of his looks now(it was black and white and not a face shot so it was kind of hard to identify the face) they also have the same clothing style.

I got a haircut about a month ago that changed the shape of my head. It was a triangle and now it's a rectangle.
I guess I'm more of a rectangle guy, but I do miss the upside down triangle a little.

After a few months of dating my soon-to-be husband, he surprised me one day getting out of the shower and shaved his head, mustache and beard all at once. I screamed and ran into the bedroom throwing the blanket over my head. I was terrified and I had NO idea why. He was very hurt but tried to comfort me anyway. I could not look at him for a few days, at least not directly. I was not prepared for it so its like my brain did not register him as the same comforting face I was so use too. Very weird. If anyone else I know does it like that, I find myself staring at them for days, even weeks until I am comfortable with them again. So yes, I feel what you are going through.

I can't recognize people when they change their appearance, at least not to a point where I can be 100% sure of who they are. Hair and clothes are the worst to be changing, most people can tell who people are by facial complexities I think and I can't.
