Just wanted to say that in general black people are under diagnosed for every mental health and neurological difference except for schizophrenia and I thinks these days bipolar. If tthe diagnosis comes with any hint of violence, it's fairly easy to get diagnosed. Otherwise, tough.
There's some evidence that schizophrenia in black people living in predominantly white areas are more likely to get triggered due to societal micro agressions.

I would assume that black females are diagnosed more than black males due to the same factors.

Ridiculously late to this party, but since there don't seem to be that many of us, I thought I'd add that I am also Black and Aspie... and female (of which there seem to be even fewer of!)

I've been told that I was "the blackest guy [my friend] know[s]," but I'm pretty sure that was a joke, considering how painfully, transparently white I am.

I read somewhere that more white men are affected with autism than any other group of. However, I 'm sure members of all races have it.

Black people with diagnosed or suspected AS are very rare in Britain although there are a reasonably good number from the Indian subcontinent. It has been speculated that AS is underreported and underdiagnosed in people from the Indian subcontinent because they have a preference for seeking help and support from within their own religious communities before outside agencies like social services or the NAS, but as blacks are more heavily reliant on public services than white British and Indian subcontinent people are, then the scarcity of black people with AS points in a direction that they may indeed by rare. Also, a sizeable fraction of kids from the Indian subcontinent are home educated or attend private and religious schools. This adds in extra complication and could reduce the numbers diagnosed or suspected because these types of education often better meet the needs and requirements of individuals than mainstream schools do, therefore reducing the number of SEN cases. Black kids almost always attend mainstream schools if they are not Muslim. AS is usually first identified at school in Britain.

The NAS is heavily dominated by white middle class British people who live in the suburbs and shires. My findings are that the NAS as an institution has a generally poor knowledge of people from other cultural and religious backgrounds.

One of my oldest friends is an aboriginal with aspergers. I've known him for about 20 years.

Outrider is part Aboriginal.

There are more black people here than you think. Very many don't reveal that fact about them.

Autism is equal opportunity, if it seems like there are less minorities with it that can be attributed to the broader socio-economic status of minorities: less money = less testing = less diagnoses.

Yes, there are even if it does not seem to be.In fact, I remember seeing a documentary a couple years back illustrating the entire autistic spectrum from the low end to the high end as well various persons whom make up the entire phenomena living in countries like South Africa,China,UK,North America,Middle East, etc. Therefore, it's silly to think that only Caucasian people make up the entire spectrum.Nope!!
