Odd, considering the fact that if Kanner's subjects were alive today, and diagnosed by today's DSM, they would be re-diagnosed with AS.

Ah, the way the aspect is interpreted? Which aspect? And how is it interpreted?

Examples pre-internet? Of course. However, that was before the changes. In fact, when they quote text directly from a book, the information can still be out-of-date. Like reading an old text that declares the earth is flat. Only in this case it's much more recent than then.

Anbuend, excellent point there. Lack of speech doesn't imply lack of intelligence, after all.

Man, this has been a huge discussion, and all over intelligence.

Well, I think the general points that most people think are these;

-Intelligence doesn't matter in a diagnosis.
-Most Aspies are of average to above average intelligence, with exceptions of course.

If these aren't right, I'll be sure to edit them as soon as someone asks.

I think some would be diagnosed AS, others PDD-NOS, others autism, and some varying between the three regardless of who diagnosed them. But I think all of them would be considered "high functioning" by today's standards, and even the girl who didn't speak had a normal IQ so she might also be considered "high functioning" by some of today's standards.
