Aspies running the world?!

Sounds to me like a cluster****.

I remember these arguments from college. I always brought up Margaret Thatcher as a counter-argument but they seemed to think she was an exception to their proposed egalitarian society. The theory was that she had spent so much time politicking with men that she had adopted their ways. Thirty years later, it has become far more common for women to be involved in politics around the world. It has become clear that women are not inherently more egalitarian. Some women lead well.Some do not. It is not a gender thing as they had assumed.

It is likely that every disenfranchised group assumes they would do so much better if given a chance. And once given a chance, some lead well and some lead poorly, depending on their personality, not their group membership. I think the same would happen if people with Aspergers Syndrome had political power. Some would lead well. Some would lead poorly.

In 1984 I was conducting an experiment that had an un-expected result.

When I was 20 I set out to prove I was not the worthless person that so many said I would be. All I planned on was to make a small, dead, business very profitable. As unexpected things happened I used the opportunity for new experiments. It started small, but grew very quickly and by the time I turned 22 I was told that over 80% of registered voters would vote for me if I ran for Florida governor.

At no point did I want to be a politician or make any statements that contradict it.

I’m a very autistic. Communicating is very hard for me and I do not like being center of attention. It was not every day I get such opportunities and I love learning. After a few months it got way out of control. They were serious about me taking an office.

They said that very few people have the ability to be a true politician. Yes, I did have lots of talks about it. They knew I was autistic, but I did not use it as an excuse for my short comings.

Of the things that make who I am, I’m not sure how many are autistic or how I grew up.

Florida was not a backward or small state. Never the less, I am autistic and lots of people wanted a person like me as a leader. There were groups of people who said their job was to lead me and help me get elected. They said they were paid for by non-profits, I asked.

It ended after a very bad night. Two teenagers were killed and I was involved in the wreck. It took me several years to overcome it and by then everything had cooled off.
