I also have weird sitting positions too that most people could never or would never be in. I'm perfectly comfortable with this weird sitting position while at my computer.

At work that's no topic since it's not a sedentary job, but at home i need my exercise ball. On a chair, especially when remaining too long in one position, i lose the feeling of being located in a body, start drifting, eventually get startled.

Imweird, I too hate sitting with my feet flat on the floor, and sit only Indian style at the computer. I sit like that at the computer at work too. I guess it's easier on my back. Fortunately, no one sees.

Blownmind, in my country, same as in most countries in the world and many US states, employment is "free will" by law. That means it's legal to fire an employee for any reason, or for no reason at all. Employers don't need to tell you why they're firing you. And if they said "you're fired because I don't like the color of your shirt today", it'd be perfectly legal too. Were they to discover I was autistic, I'd be not only out the door in seconds but also sued by the employer (any job) for having worked at their place knowing I am autistic.

I sit in several odd positions, (most of which involve the manner in which I hold my upper body). While sitting in an office chair, I like to sit with my legs crossed "indian-style," leaning forward and to the left with my head sharply angled to the right. It looks as if I'm about to fall off the chair. If I sit back, my upper body tends to move to the right with my head staying in the same position. If I'm sitting in one of those horrid plastic chairs ("schoolroom style" seats), I will wrap my legs outside the front legs of the chair and lean onto the desk/table (if one is present), otherwise, I will use the wall or my arm to lean against.

I definitly sit in odd positions. They are always some version of what NT's call contorted. I've always sat like this. My legs crossed indian style in chairs or oddly wrapped around chair backs and legs. I have had people say I sit like a child. Whatever, its comfortable and I never notice I'm doing until it gets pointed out. By then its too late to fix, so why bother?

I also like to sit in contorted ways......which I can't even describe but e.g. I put one leg on books while putting my arm of the same side under this leg so that I can still use this hand. I don't think about it, I just want to feel comfortable, even when it looks uncomfortable and/or weird to others.

How many of you are hopeless slouchers? I have slouched in chairs since forever. I try to make a mental effort to have better posture but it is so hard to do! It will last less than 10 seconds and then I am right back to slouching again. Someone here said they "sit like a child." That's the best explanation for it. I just came from a party at work and noticed myself sitting at the table with my legs wrapped around the front legs of the chair and my top half totally slouched over, my upper chest sometimes even touching the edge of the table! Nobody else was sitting like that. It's like takes too much mental and physical effort to sit straight.

My mother always was on my back about this. She would always tell me to "stop walking like a caveman/your dad," whom she despises.

Cyborg--my mom too. Always telling me to sit up straight, stop looking down at the ground when I walk, buy nice clothes instead of wearing jeans and sneakers all the time...why don't you do this, why don't you do that...ugh. When I was around 7-10, she always told me to find a new laugh because she hated my laugh. How does one find a new laugh? Weird.

I tend to sit leaned up against the arm-rest, with my head tilted to the side.

I often sit with my left leg folded underneath me and my right leg hanging, no matter what kind of seat I'm on (I actually have calluses starting to form along the top of my left foot because my current desk chair is *not* made for that kind of sitting). Otherwise I sit normally or with my legs crossed at the knee or the ankle, though I'll wrap my feet around any kind of horizontal bar underneath the seat, if the seat has one.

Me too; leaning or staying relaxed in a position for more than a few minutes can give me instant pain- so much that it feels like bruises are forming.

YES! I get in trouble at work for this reason. I sit with one leg up on my chair against my chest, and the other stretched out leaning against my desk, sideways so I am turning my upper half to face my computer. Everyone thinks it is really uncomfortable, but I get REALLY ansty if I sit any other way. In my car, I have my left leg up on the dashboard leaning against the window. I don't even do it on purpose, that is just how I end up.

When I was a teenager, my mom would constantly nag me about my posture. To me, slouching feels normal; standing up straight feels odd.

This is so weird. When I was a teen I had relitivly good posture beucase I knew how important it was and such, but as I got older it deteriourated, I get in strange postitions, etc. Every once in a while i'll get that spur of the moment "Man I gotta sit up straigher".. I get somewhat used to it but then after that I revert back to my strange positions.

As mentioned before the exercise ball does help, and gives me a stim but that gets tiring after a couple hours or so, and I go back to a regular chair, and strange postures.

The same thing happens with myself.
