Thats why they invented the internet: so you could speak without being interrupted-by writing text.

Interrupting is the nub of the issue you're talking about.

With one guy I worked with years ago who would habitually interrupt me- as soon as he did that I would just interrupt him back and say "what I was saying before you interrupted me was..." and just continue with what I was saying.

Some individuals interrupt more than others. But if its not just one person -but everyone in your life who verbally stamps on you all of the time - and the opposite never happens- then maybe you are doing something wrong-in the way you communicate.

Maybe your not assertive enough, or maybe you're too long winded and need to be more to the point ( if you keep it short there is less chance for others to interrupt you).

One thing ive observed is that there are two ways commonly use to tell a story: (1) beginning-middle-end, and (2) End, beginning, middle.

The first option is more entertaining- its how jokes and anectdotes are told. You start with the start- and end with the conclusion- or the punchline.

But in a job situations, its better to start with the conclusion- ( and 19 times out of 20 times -you can dispense with the beginning and the middle): "Houston. We have a problem! The airlock fell off the spaceship"

But some people use the beginning-middle-end mode all of the time. Thats a good way to provoke others into interrupting you. Indeed its a good way to get others pissed off at you.

Because there's more to social skills that just manners and not being a dick, unfortunately.
The really skilled can be dicks and get away with it.

I came to the conclusion most people are idiots and poor conversationalists. I used to think I was the one with terrible conversational skills and it really killed my confidence. Then I realised most people just like to talk and are not good at holding a conversation. Having a conversation with someone who is good at it is actually fun and makes you feel valued.

The trick with people who don't shut up (and if you want them to like you, eg. at work) is to appear interested. Just a few words of encouragement here and there and let them talk. At the end they will like you and think it was a good conversation even though it was one-sided.

I dunno why NTs are always saying that autistic people have one-sided conversations. It seems to me that NTs have one-sided conversations too. Most only talk about themselves in long incoherent rambles while I am getting boreder and boreder.
