Are most people with AS nerdy?

You don't need to necessarily be super intelligent to be nerdy, that's just something that often comes along with it (but not always).

And other people are super-intelligent too, even the occasional football player who hasn't smashed all his brain cells out his ears

Let's see:

In high school, I was in marching band, the music club, the newspaper, the chess club, and the debating society.

My two friends were a band member and my debating partner.

There, that sure proves I wasn't a nerd.

WOW, that is an INTERESTING breakdown. I don't think I have been to ANY school that was even 70% preppy/jock, even though I have been to 2 private schools, and one was in an, at the time, middle class white neighborhood. And 3% getto wanna-be? WHO would want THAT!? As for Redneck, hopefully you mean the traditional meaning, and not the current hillbilly type. Luckily, my generation was mostly spared the goth.

As for me? I wouldn't have fit into any of those catagories. I dress conservative what is now often called business casual. Dress shoes(like oxfords), kahki dockers, normal shirt(usually plain or striped and short sleeve), and I usually don't wear a tie. If I have to wear a suit, it looks black, and is conservative and I DO wear a tie. I can tie a great windsor that looks precise.

I USED to have near perfect vision, and did for most of my life. NOW, I am far sighted. I wear unobtrusive flexon glasses.

If it is REALLY sunny, and I will be out a lot, I will wear a baseball cap as they were meant to be worn, because I am balding.

If there is a term that can describe my look, it is TRADITIONAL-CONSERVATIVE!

Whether Technical. Mechanical, Electronic, Computer, Logic, that is ME! There are the other AS symptoms, so I guess I am a nerd.

The question asked if we are nerds, not if we look like nerds.

I don't think I look like a nerd. Well, maybe I do if I'm wearing one of my tshirts from Think Geek or something, but I don't think people would pick me out as being nerdy based on my looks.

If you were to ask the people I went to high school with, you'd probably get "loner" or "psycho" (depending on how well they knew me.)

Not a nerd here. I'm merely just the quiet, intellectual metalhead kid that sits in the back of the classroom.

My sister called me "Queen of the Nerds," and sic'ed me on her son, whom she thought was of the same ilk. She wanted to know if he really was that smart.

Little geek was pretty smart, but he was bs'ing half the time. He dresses pretty well for his age (16)--not at all childish or caught up in teenage fads. He finds these sharp, edgy button ups with zips and pockets in really nice colors, and he wears these great pants--I don't know where he finds them.

And yet, the nerd comes out in the way he talks, his obscure interests, the way he deals with his parents.

I can act like a pedant sometimes, and I hate unreasoned, personal arguments that aren't based on any kind of scientific basis. And then other times, I'm so laid back, because, in the end, being right is not the important thing.

In reality, I'm more of an old hippie. A nerd hippie. I don't use fluorescents--I use LED's because they are more environmentally friendly, and I recycle everything, including food scraps. Yeah, a greenie, too.

I'm pretty nerdy.

I'm not really nerdy, I guess I could be called a geek seeing as a geek is defined by low social status, but a nerd is the textbook suspenders and wire-rimmed glasses tape in the middle, checkered pants, etc. I don't look or act nerdy, however, I have no problem with nerdy people, nerds are just people like anyone else.
But I almost get the impression some of people on these forums go out of their way to TRY to act nerdy to feel like theyr more AS or something, and half of them are fake to begin with, textbook syndrome cases (not all but there are alot on here who do this, but not everyone). I say just be yourself (and to those who really are nerdy please don't take offense to that statement, I have no problems with nerdy people)..... Which if prooven true would slightly irritate me as it'd just be pushing a stereotype, not to mention by people who may not even have Asperger/autism. I say just be yourself though because it's something nobody can tell you that your doing wrong, reguardless if your a rocket scientist or a braindead moron (not saying all of you are in the latter category though).

I don’t have buckteeth, and don’t depend on vision-correcting devices. I think I look fairly normal. Some people even think I look attractive.

I would love to have a girlfriend that "looks like a nerd”.

There was a TV show in the early ‘90s called “The Wonder Years” (it might still be in reruns on Nickolodian’s “TV-land”). On one of the episodes, a new character was introduced, who was a girl that spoke in an animated, intense style and had a pet bat. She was supposed to be “a nerd”. I kept thinking to myself that the main male character was crazy for being afraid of befriending her. This girl was very charming and looked pleasant, in my opinion and I have wished to meet someone like her ever since.
