How obvious are your obsessions to other people?

Everyone who knows me probably knows what my obsessions are, don't really feel the need to hide it.

Music is the main one but then the subcatagories of that obsession are, concerts, vinyl, cassette tapes, I have lots of CDs but kind of wish the where vinyls, then again if they where I could not have downloaded them onto my computer to put on my phones mp3 player to listen to when I am out of minutes and cannot stream music, except some vinyls come with codes to download the mp3 version online. And music I am obsessed with is largely metal and anything psychedelic...but I like other genres just not quite as obsessed with others.

I also sort of have an obsession about learning anything and everything about drugs and herbs/plants that have psychoactive effects or even more physical effects like an herb called feverfew that works kind of like ibuprofen, and yes that has included experimenting with them...sort of difficult to avoid trying such things when doing a lot of reading about it.

Those are the main actual obsessions, obviously the music one is the one I am more willing to openly express in just about every situation, the other not so much. Aside from that I have plenty of intrests that aren't quite obsessions such as thinking about things that bother me about society and what could be solutions(of course no one wants to hear my idealistic ideas about a classless society that will never happen with the attitude of most humans), cat/dogs /animals in general are cool and intresting to learn about, Interested in making of pipes, glass blowing is a pretty cool art and I have seen some cool pipes don't think I'd want to do it though cause I don't even like cooking food due to heat let alone melting glass.

Anyways it does take me a while to actually open up about my interests with new people, though sometimes I am sure my attire might give it away...like if I have a shirt of a band I like, then they probably assume I like whatever sort of music it is and that I like music enough to wear a shirt representing that.

I think it becomes obvious in certain conversations. I can have a relatively normal, low-key conversation with somebody about certain topics but when a particular field of my interest is brought up I turn into a geyser of information and tend to either overpower the conversation or start going off on tangents about the interest in question.

It depends... most of my special intrests are franchises or fandoms so I don't feel the need to cover them up. In fact I even show what my intrests are through my clothes and the objects in my room (i.e I wear Portal shirts and display tonnes of Harry Potter merch in my room and don't bother to hide it away if we have anyone coming round to the house who might see it.) But I won't talk about them unless it fits with the current conversational topic (and even then I try to make sure not to infodump.)

But on the other hand if my obsessions are weird or not suitable for my age group I am very carefull who I talk about them to and try not to flaunt them in front of others.

I don't have an obsession so there is no need to worry :/

From what people have told me - mine are pretty darn obvious.

My former teacher-therapist knew of my (current) obsession. Half the time she does whenever I visit her.
While my parents are rather confused... (They don't search the net, they barely study new stuffs...)
My sister just go walk away.

Sometimes I end up spilling it to my profs, regardless of their teaching subject. Sometimes during class, sometimes privately because I like to bug them with questions and see their thoughts.

At my online friends... Depends of what of them, and how would it bring up.

The rest... I just don't...

I can't read other people's minds so I dunno, the circle of people I talk to isn't very big either. A lot of my interests are pretty general which people don't look down upon knowing so much about. I imagine people I know well and talk to see my pattern of interests and know how I think, I'm more guarded with others.

Well between the Band tees, buttons, belt buckles, necklaces, the David Bowie watch, the Bauhaus ring, the band posters, numerous biographies, autobiographies, and other books on different bands, and the slew of albums and live DVDs I own, I'd say its pretty obvious.

I'm known as the "movie girl" in school. I greet people by asking them their favourite movie and then list off all of the facts I know about it. I've come to recognize people by their favourite movie because..well, facial blindness. It's the only thing I talk about to people I don't know that well!
