That's what happened to me too. A girl in my class had a younger brother who was severely Autistic, and so my mum got friendly with her mum and obviously told her mum that I had Asperger's, and then the girl told everybody in my class because I know she did, and then it made everybody think I had some sort of contagious disease or something and so made them afraid to be a close friend to me because of this label.

How old were you?

About 9. As soon as I was diagnosed the whole world had to know.

Nope. But then again, I'm not diagnosed and may only have a bunch of traits. However, people have pointed out "You're kind of like Sheldon Cooper, aren't you?" and similar. Don't know what to answer to that! Yes? No?

People notice that I'm eccentric, anxious, sometimes shy, other times hyper, but they never guess Asperger's. If anything people usually think I have ADHD and/or learning difficulties. I once said to someone that I think I may have ADHD and they said that it would certainly explain a lot. They didn't say it in a nasty way. I remember once a teacher at school was told I have Asperger's, after knowing me for 5 months, and I heard her say, "I didn't know it was Asperger's she had?" in a confused way. It probably because I wasn't one bit like Rainman or something.

Well they either think or know I'm autistic or they probably think I'm "ret*d".

Couldn't have said it better.

I think my father may have told my mother behind my back.

I specifically told him not to tell her, but there have been... clues:

  • She asked me if I was bothered by my massage therapist touching me.
  • She specifically brought me food to eat that I'd like for thanksgiving instead of me having to stick to corn and stuffing (this is odd for her, as she has always been in the camp of you eat what is put in front of you, even if you don't like it).
  • When I was pacing and stimming with a stuffy at my brother's wedding, she didn't order me to stop, and she asked me afterwards about whether or not it was the new people (I hadn't really met the bride's family before that day), or just the situation of him getting married and going to live on the other side of the continent that was bothering me.
  • It seems like she might actually get me the stim toys I asked for for Christmas instead of making me feel bad for asking for them.
She's also been a lot less condescending in general lately. I could write an essay on the things she's done and said to me while I was growing up, but let's just say that she's been civil lately, and that it's completely unlike her, at least when it comes to me.

Yeah it certainly sounds like he has.

I think I lost social respect from the other kids as soon as I was diagnosed.

The diagnosis may have got me some help with my schoolwork and a counselor to talk to if I was worried about something, but as a little kid I was quite normal socially, so the diagnosis didn't need to be revealed at all to the other kids. It was only when I got to a teenager that making friends was difficult, whether I had the diagnosis or not. Most NT teenage girls are extremely complex creatures and it's so hard to please them. I found teenage boys were nicer to me but I felt awkward trying to befriend boys because being at that awkward age I was afraid that girls would call me "slut" or something if I was known to hanging around boys. As adults we all know that a girl hanging out with boys does not make her a slut or lesbian or anything like that, but, again, teenage girls are so stupid like that.

I doubt that. Now that I know what ASD is I can go through my head and categorize several people as spectrumites who never mentioned it to me, but I have not nor ever really plan on talking about it with them, especially in case they don't know it themselves.

Sometimes in class, I bite my nails, or murmur or say out loud weird things.

No, thankfully no one has blabbed on me, but then again, I've only told a very few people, mostly family. Whether someone has guessed my Asperger on their own, I wouldn't know, as they haven't informed me if they did.
