If you change your name, then it will be come legal. Then they will have to call you that. Just tell them to call you a nickname, something you want to be called and it's not your real name.

Not everyone will use the nickname though. Legally changing the name is a better option.
Then they will call you by your name again. I don't understand the distinction.

It may be my legal name, but it's not my true name. I'll identify with my birth name while I keep people using the false one.

OK...I gotcha. But, is it your true name or the name given to you? Or is your true name chosen and then only shared by others of your choosing? This is actually buttressed by history as most cultures believe that knowing the 'true name' of someone or something gives another power over that person or thing.

Reminds me of T.S. Eliot (greatly abridged, my apologies) and the naming of cats.

When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily
------
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
-------------
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover—
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.

^ The T part is the initial of my last name, by the way. I thought this thread was something else. Oops. Bye. *runs away like the roadrunner*

My birth name was the name given to me, not one I chose for myself, and being referred by it is kind of like when a stranger asks you a personal question. If I could get people to refer to me by my last name instead of first then that would be acceptable.

As for a "true" name that I identify with, there is none. I'm used to having many names and faces.

Have fun. Pick one that you really, really like. Use it to identify the persona you wish to be. Maybe it could be a self reinforcing positive attribute.

Huh, about the last name. I've been in many situations that people use last names a lot. If it's easy, that is. It's funny when they have a family name that can double as a given name. Like Brian Keith, Keith David, etc.

Then it's all wacky. LOL

Pick one? Where's the fun in that? I find random names at random times to be more interesting.
