Totally, especially during a burnout

My special interest is exercise (triathlon training + yoga, pilates and weights). I haven't been able to run for the last 2 months because of too much too soon for the knees, then 2 weeks ago I broke my tailbone. This sucks! :wall:

My special interests rarely frustrate me these days because they bring me joy. My mum's reaction towards them frustrated me very early last year for a few months until I took a 4 month break from visiting her. Upon my weekend returns last September, she's really calmed down about my special interests.

I get frustrated because they seem too big sometimes. I need to narrow my focus from feeling like I want to contain all the knowledge about something or be the ultimate authority on it.

Some people want to find others that share their interest. If I find out there are very many others with my interest, I lose interest in it!

If you get frustrated with your special interest, take a break! It works for me!

Of course I do. Progress is uneven, and several failures in a bunch are discouraging, as they push me into a new direction. Like gamblers, we live for the lucky days when things align easily.

My special interest is video games and I do occasionally (or at least I like to think occasionally) get mad at them when they are whopping my hind end but usually I'm pretty good at keeping my cool, I have lost interest in them once but it only lasted for about a day and I think it was mostly due to a surgery I had the day before because I was coming of the stuff they use to sedate me and I really had no interest in anything.

My only frustration with my special interests turtles and wolves, are the bad reality (poaching, loss of habitat, trigger happy peasants etc).

The (special) interests themselves never frustrate me.

Curiously enough, a major factor in my turning away from my old interest in wildlife, was the pessimistic prospect of ongoing extinction and the destruction of ecosystems at the hands of human beings. There is still a little bit of interest, but I'm reminded of the sad reality so often that I cannot stand it.

This, coupled with a period in my life when depression and apathy reigned supreme, caused me to temporarily abandon my interests in wildlife and drawing, and never being able to completely revive either interest. Instead, I latched on to a different interest, Indonesian history and culture, which has held my attention in one form or another for the past eight and a half years.
