Do you hate how some people think Asperger makes you inferio

This is why I have told only a few people that I have AS (outside of these forums).

I hate when my mother goes on and on about how smart my child is...then says, "I don't think he has HFA or AS...he's too smart..." She's worn me out with that...No matter how many times I say that being smart does not mean that he does not have HFA or AS, or that people with HFA or AS are not smart, she doesn't get it.

Well, she also would hate to admit that I have it...She's too insecure to think I may possibly know more than her...or God forbid, that she beat me constantly and I had HFA/AS...hmmm

Its a bit wierd sometimes, once when I told a friend that I was AS she started treated me as if I was disabled and that I was incapable of getting a joke and that I was going to take things seriously; I wish i'd've never bothered. Ironic how the ones that try to deny it to themselves (and to everyone else) are left alone. Some people assume that every one of us is either from "the case of the dog in the night-time" or "rain man".

It's pathetic. They feel up when you feel down. Same way with any form of harrassement. It just goes in a circle.

Asperger's does make me inferior, if you ask me.

That's right, keep that attitude. Because people feel like they benefit my making you feel inferior.

In what way?

If someone doesn't want to understand me, that's their choice.

I know my value, and what I have to offer. If that's not of interest, it's their loss.

It reflects on them, not on us.

The high school here treated me like some of ret*d. AS doesn't make us ret*d. It makes us different. People seem to think we're inferior to NTs, and it's sad.

I find it offensive when people who know very little about AS call it a disease or a mental illness I have to point out it is neither it is a neurological condition.

My own brother calls me a ret*d.

Brothers do that, though. Nothing to do with AS, or NT, or U.N.C.L.E, or anything - just siblings being the jerks that siblings can be. (Trust me, I've got two of each kind - it's what they do, at least until all parties involved grow up, emotionally speaking.)

Its the parents too.

I'm never going to accomplish anything in life.... I should live in a group home..... they want to be my legal guardians because I cant make decisions for myself.

Not really, I just think it's funny.
