I've seemed slow or stupid in social contexts, and people have implied rather directly that this has been their interpretation of things. It doesn't bother me; it would in fact not be an unfair characterization to say that I'm socially ret*d.

I've never been accused of being intellectually ret*d; there've never been grounds on which to do so; what I lack in social intelligence, I more make up in raw processing power.

Gifts and curses, gifts and curses, my entire world is gifts and curses...

Good fortune,

I think people think I'm ret*d (as of late - maybe not as a child)

Yeah when i was around 13 i got diagnosed with aspergers when i was in a foster family. The parents there told all the kids about me and they started calling me a ret*d and teasing me and they would laugh and say "your autistic, your autistic"  . now i dont tell anyone about my aspergers.

WOW, that sounds STUPID!(Meaning that your detractors were stupid!)! !! It makes NO sense. I guess they thought that they were inferior and felt they had to try to knock someone else down.

I feel extremely ret*d. I think when I was young many years ago that people did call me that. It made me feel bad. I think my IQ is in the negative range. Probably around -50. I am officially the dumbest person on Earth. What is 1+1 again? That question is too hard for me. Is it 39503? I don't know anything about anything except psychology and art. I have limited interests and that proves that I can't do anything useful. That is all for now.

But on the plus side, you do speak in complete sentences . . . Don't be so hard on yourself. I bet you have interests that just haven't blossomed yet.

Hmmm... I haven't been called a "ret*d" too often when I was a kid. I've been called a "friggin' geek/nerd" quite a bit, though.

To be fair, though, I haven't been diagnosed until I was 33, so alot of the "adolescent idiots" didn't have much of a chance to be completely cruel about the situation.

I'm not sure if this helps anybody at all, but I found that as the age goes up, the less B.S. occurs. Hard to explain, but people tend to be more tolerant as they get older.

I have never been called that. I took a college course in biochemistry at the age of 12. Nobobdy would be foolish enough to try calling me that.

From my speech, I see how someone could dub me as "slow"; I've been dubbed such before by "peers". I'm big, I move slow, and I talk slow; I learnt to pace my speech, otherwise I wouldn't get anything out, anything that's comprehensible anyway. I have really long pauses in-between sentences too. In grade 1/2 the teachers thought I was "slow" for I had trouble with reading/writing; I caught up quickly enough (I was always ok with mathematics).

Now, professionals think I'm highly intelligent (every time I see a new one I keep a count until they blurt it out; it's kinda a running joke over here); they just see me when I'm talking of something I have knowledge of, i.e., me.

I'm "ret*d" in some areas, above in others; the whole splintered cognitive pattern thingy.
