when i was completely nonverbal, it was the most frustrating time of my life, its like everybody around you is chatty and your sitting there like wtf lol. I can remember trying my best to speak but all i could do was growl and go into a tantrum, it was my only means of communication, i felt like no matter how many times i opened my mouth, nothing came out, it was horrible. Like i say in my other posts, its like a choking feeling like it hurts to get the words out, like the connection from the vocal cords to my brain is just not there.

I was only able to speak in terms of mimicking or reciting memorized material. On the other hand, I had no ability to advocate with respect to my needs, wants, etc. It's still a challenge if not an impossibility.

If you remember, why didn't you talk?

It's for a book I'm writing about a nonverbal autistic, so I need the answer to be as detailed as possible. Thank you!

Great question. Please go to the Haven; I began a thread, "Special Silent Forum" for those of us who are NV or partly NV, like myself. Many have posted - please check! I would appreciate your insight too.

I have a high genetic predisposition for autism and many mutes in my ancestry. I am a HFA.
