I've noticed that over the years, I've become a lot better at seeing the big picture, while conversely my ability to notice or remember a lot of details about things has gotten a lot worse. In fact, the college classes that involved a lot of memorization were the ones I struggled the most with.

Here's another one...public speaking. I've actually become quite good at that. It's casual conversation that I still struggle with...

...communicate.
even some profound autistics can communicate in other ways,it would help if ignorants looked into it more instead of only looking for typical ways.

...have a sense of humour.
its often there, those who say it isnt probably dont recognise the level or style of what the autie/aspie finds funny, that doesn't mean=no exist.

Talk up a storm and make sense while doing so (ok..only to certain people...but good enough)

I have an imagination, a very vivid imagination.
I have a sense of humor that people find repulsive.
I can approach people, but I do lack the skills to have a long conversation or even seem interested in what people are telling me.
I can dress myself  I mean I can make an effort to make myself look nice.

Many people think that we don't know how to dress properly and keep ourselves clean and tidy.

I have always been able to manage my own personal hygiene and to dress in an ordinary way if I have chosen to and mostly I do.

I think a lot of people believe we can't maintain long term relationships, but that's not the case for most of us.

Depends on what part of the spectrum a person is on, so the 'rules' of lack of expectations for people with autism go out the window. We don't all fit into the same box.

Aspies are supposedly unable to...

...speak in public. Out of all my classmates back in high school, I was by far the best at speaking in front of a group.

...understand symbolism in literature, and symbolic referances in general. I excell at it, better than most anyone I know.

...think abstractly.

...be pacifistic. Some people tell me that Aspies are supposedly abnormally violent. Nonsense.

...demonstrate leadership qualities. It's easier for me to let others do all the work, but I find I can lead a group effectivly in need be.

And me... by choice.

I think every Aspie stereotype is probably true of some Aspie, somewhere. Doesn't make it true for all (or even most!)

On the contrary it seems to me that the vast majority of NT’s have very limited central coherence. They are inherently superfluous in the way they think, everything is analyzed of in terms societal rules, cultural memes, etc. For the most part they are incapable of thinking for themselves.
May I note that maybe they seem "incapable of thinking for themselves" because they do their best thinking in groups? A group of 3-5 NTs has been shown to be a great deal more efficient than the same NTs working individually. I don't know that thinking in groups is such a horrible thing as you make it out to be; it's just different from the way we think. Good or evil can come either from groups or from individuals, so it's not even morally different.

I'm thinking that, in addition to generalizing (what's true of some with autism is true of all), some people tend to take what they hear about what young children with autism are like (because, unfortunately, that's what one tends to hear most about, at least if not purposely looking), and that's there impression of what people (whatever age) with autism are like.

Forming close friendships.

I have friends that I spend a lot of time with, and I have a rich social life. People expect us to be reclusive ret*ds with no social lives.
