I put this in the autism section because I'm starting to worry that my autistic traits would interfere with independent living. I want to hear from some aspies and auties that live on their own! Please!

Living on your own is AWESOME. The only downside are the bills, but other then that you have free reign to do what you want. I loved it...and I miss it. I had to move back in with my parents due to a rough patch I was going through a year ago, but I'd jump right back into the independant life in a heartbeat if given the chance. It takes some getting used to. I had a hard time the first couple weeks because it was the first time I'd ever lived away from my parents but I got over it when I figured out that I could drink beer and play videogames in the living room with no fear of being yelled at :D

I pay bills immediately, on the same day I get them (either physical, i.e. bills printed with a printer on paper and then sent to me, or as an e-mail). I use Internet-banking for transferring the required money. And then I store the bill or throw it away, because it is paid.

I have full control about my money and finances; i.e. I don't have restrictions like some of my autistic friends have. This means that I can do what I want, but it is my full responsibility to avoid debt, because that costs extra money, since it is comparable with borrowing money from a bank to buy something very expensive.

I don't like the idea of living completely on my own. I stay at University during the primary two semesters and commute on the off one. I can deal with that and I like it a lot. My roommates, though, find me hard to deal with...though they're fairly nice about it (I have a few odd quirks that I didn't realize were atypical until coming to college).

Next year I'm considering getting an apartment with another person and it scares me a bit. I will be staying at my mothers house on the off semester still, I think, though. So I'm not completely fleeing the nest just yet.

I don't think I'd be able to handle living completely on my own until I have to -- which will be Graduate School in a couple years. Then I really have no choice.
