I saw an episode where Monk was a kid and he seemed pretty AS to me (can't remember why exactly; I'll have to rely on my judgment back then).

Is it possible that he learned to fake NT well enough but couldn't anymore because of the stress of his wife's death?

In addition to OCD, there is another very close disorder.. OCPD. obsessive compulsive personality disorder. Its less about washing your hands, and more about planning things to the Nth detail. Google if you want to know more.

As for OCD, they say that the difference between it and aspie obsessiveness is that OCD obsessions are unwanted, intrusive, cause anxiety, etc. Aspie obsessions, on the other hand, are enjoyable for the person.

Exactly. As someone with both full-blown OCD and Asperger's, I can attest to this statement completely. OCD isn't fun. Asperger's can be. The term "obsession" is only properly used when talking about clinical obsessions seen in OCD. It has taken on a more colloquial meaning and is used incorrectly nowadays. A true obsession is a disgusting, anxiety-producing thought that the person doesn't want to think about. One of mine is randomly hearing, "I hope my mom dies." My "obsessions" from the Asperger's, on the other hand, are just my intense interests. I can't stop thinking about them, but I like that. OCD-ers try their best to push away their obsessions; Aspies try their best to embrace them and not let them go. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask! And just as a side note, Monk isn't a good depiction of OCD at all. It's a very stereotypical view and doesn't show the intense anxiety and hell that OCD causes. All anybody in the media focuses on is the handwasher. Yes, contamination fears are the most common, but that is far from what OCD is. It also isn't about ordering and having things "perfect." I have neither. I am what is called a pure obsessional. I have blasphemous and violent obsessions and few compulsions. The only true compulsion I have is praying. But you never hear about these OCD-ers. Ever. This is why I believe I went undiagnosed for so long, why I never suspected it. I think that Monk is generally more favored by those OCD-ers who have contamination fears. Otherwise, the show doesn't transcend to other subsets, meaning that it doesn't properly depict the disorder. The Aviator, however, does just that. Leonardo DiCaprio's portrayal of OCD was simply outstanding (he deserved the Oscar). Although Howard Hughes had contamination OCD, every OCD-er I've talked to who has seen the movie can relate, no matter what type of OCD they have. That shows that the job was well-done. It has been my finding that those of us who don't have contamination issues are offended by Monk, but that's just my observation...

Sorry for the later capitals. I tried to remove them all. Maybe I can just get rid of emphasis.

I think the point they were trying to make is that capitalization for emphasis is like adding seasoning to a dish.

Adding a little gives it flavor, adding too much drowns out everything else.

In moderation using capitalization for emphasis is a very useful tool in effective writing, however overuse of it dulls its impact to the point the reader starts ignoring it and it only becomes an annoyance.

Personally I dont care just trying to be helpful :)
