Sorry I haven't been on for several days. I am really beginning to believe my son has OCD in addition to being on the spectrum. There are quite a few things, and I am not sure I can remember them all, but I will list a few things.

1) When he is reading out loud, if he misses a word, he has to start over at the beginning. Same thing with studying. We use notecards for studying facts, and when he gets one wrong, he wants to start over at the beginning of the notecards.

2) He has started recently believing that he must take a bath after he goes #2. He gets really upset because he thinks his bottom will not be clean enough unless he does.

3) He also gets out of sorts when things change. For instance, I bought a new lamp for my night stand, and he threw a fit because I got rid of the old one.

4) He is constantly asking me what time it is. He wants to know what he is having for dinner that night sometimes as soon as he wakes up in the morning.

5) He is obsessed with whether or not we get any phone messages during the day, and he must check the answering machine as soon as we get in the house.

6) Now, I believe he is really fixated on a boy in his class. He is constantly saying the kids name over and over at home to the point where it is driving my husband and I crazy. We are doing the best we can to talk to him about trying to keep it down. He says he doesn't want to keep saying the kid's name over and over again and that he is going to work on it.

7) He also has some tics that come and go such as repeatedly licking his face to the point where it is rubbed raw. Thank goodness, that one has subsided for now.

I could probably come up with some more, but I think you can get the picture.

I love my son dearly, and I want to help him, so I am trying to get more information about OCD

I know there are medications out there, but I am not sure for a 9 yr old child what the side effects would be.

Thanks!

Christ -Don't pussyfoot around - JUST TELL HIM STRAIGHT - as you would treat anyone you have feelings for.

Tell him straight, IT'S WEIRD!!

I've been there. It is!! ! WEIRD! STOP IT!!

NO GOOD CAN COME FROM IT - ONLY MISERY!!

WARN HIM

Don't form Special Interests in other people
- That has become one of my rules!! !

Besides that, they're not worth it!

ImanAspie---I like your straightforward approach. I actually did get very annoyed with him tonight, and told him to please stop this nonsense of saying the kids name over and over. He is only 9, so I am not sure how far to go with the discussion with him. I don't want to hurt him or make him not want to try to make friends. I want to be a little careful of how I handle it. I do appreciate your honesty though.
