I used to be jealous. Now, I'm glad I'm not "popular."

If I was popular, I wouldn't be able to howl like a wolf at work :P

I'm not jealous of popular people at all. Many of them end up being popular for the wrong reasons.

While I do not wish to be "popular", it appears I would find it more convenient and easier to continue living, if I were  more :skull: popular than I am right now

Popularity has downsides (paparazzi)

But getting ignored and feeling invisible almost every waking moment, is not too great either. Although the privacy is good

There are many things worse than being invisible

San Diego was pretty homophobic. Not a good place to be different or crossdressing. 2004 year. Sometimes I wanted to be invisible

Where I live now is pretty diverse

Now I am invisible and ignored

And that is "As Good As it Gets"

:D

Being invisible is like not existing. We're not here to compare my experience with yours.

I agree with HistoryGal. I feel like I don't exist all the time. It feels like being on the outside looking in. It feels like I'm sitting in a space ship watching life happen and nobody notices me in my invisible space ship. I come out of my space ship only if I absolutely have to interact with people.

Not at all. Sometimes it can be tempting to want to be liked by more people, but in 20 years from now, it is highly unlikely that their popularity will have gotten them anywhere except possibly involved with the wrong crowd. I personally have no desire to have that in my future.

No.

I'm jealous of people who get sympathy for the way they are when everything I say or do is apparently wrong.
If people have any idea what I have to put up with, they'd probably die.
Life is unfair in so many ways.

Funny how that works isn't it? People who have a good heart, are supportive all the time to others get nothing when they say they are having bad times but people who are never supportive and are egotistical get attention in floods when they don't deserve it. Incredibly unfair and strange.

No. I learned a long time ago that being popular does not make one automatically happy. My older sister was one of the popular kids growing up in a rural area. Watching her hang out with her "friends", I got to witness the dark side of popularity. She got pressured into taking drugs and almost died of an overdose in the process. They did not stick around when she ended up in the hospital and never visited her after that point, as they did not want to get "blamed" for it. What "wonderful" friends they were!

As strange as it may seem, I would rather have my life (even with the isolation issues) than to ever have that type of popularity.

Right about the supportive part. I didn't get it when I needed it after being there for others. I don't do that anymore. Keeping my relationships at the acquaintance level. No expectations.

No. I never desired popularity however these types of people suck up the pastor's attention in church settings....there is little room for anyone else. In some work settings, only their ideas are given ear.

I know what you mean about the lack of support. I have done a lot for people, but when I need something, I am on my own.

I can't stand it when the popular people monopolize the pastor's attention. They think they are the only people in the parish that matter.

It freaking irritates me so much that only certain people get support and attention when they are having a tough time while I am left to twist in the wind when I'm having a tough time.

Story of my life. To be blunt, it sucks!

Can understand you fully sweetheart. Why this is will always stay a mystery to me. I know people in my real life who nag a lot and their problems are literally nothing compared to what I experience on a daily basis and they get attention in floods from everyone and people tell them how horrible they have it and how much they suffer and when I even say a word about my problems, people don't even listen or even have the guts to tell me to stop nagging when I am always there for everyone, always supportive and understanding. Boggles my mind.

Think people like us just need to look out for each other because otherwise we would have no one at all.

It would be to my advantage to be more "popular" than I am now

Although I would not want too many social commitments

Not having precious lil "friends" causes a lot of challenges

Job networking

Had to live with strangers in college

"Popular" is not the goal. But "popular" appears to be better than the current situation

:D
