Just FTR: I know who’s poop I want.

Seriously. If I do go the route of FMT, I’ve long since selected the person in my life I’d ask to be a bacteria donor. He’s a highly successful NT, socially sharp, hard working/playing, a champion of many disciplines/athletic pursuits, phenomenal salesman, fantastic tradesman, financially successful etc etc etc all the good qualities one could want from a fully functioning brain/body. If I had his guts/“intestinal fortitude,” as they say, I’d be as unstoppable of achieving my goals as he is of his. 8)

I guess I’m just sharing this to spark similar thoughts in others - if you could pick your FMT donor from someone you know, do you know who you’d choose?

I don't feel that many autistic people have less than "full" functioning.

I find the idea that people with autism are somehow "defective" in some way--is abhorrent. And probably not true.

I do believe that all people should work on things which they are not "optimal" with. I need to work on my mechanical skills, for example. And my skills at asserting myself. And my perseverance.

Every time someone talks about how "defective" autistic people are----and how they have "bad genes" or something like that--I cringe. I feel that notion is just a bunch of hooey garbage.

If it’s not true garbage, then why can our social deficits be observed, quantified, measured & recorded by ASD diagnostic experts?

ASD is a myriad of mostly deficiencies w/ some potentially positive traits thrown in - like some savant skill or whatever.

IMO we do have less than our full potential functioning; otherwise I wouldn’t be able to “turn on,” the social circuitry the way that I do and function better all around.

Being "social" does not equate to being "better."

In this society, alas, being "social" does equate, much of the time, with being more materially successful. But it still doesn't make the person "better" because that person happens to know how to "work a room."

And it doesn't mean that people with autism are defective, or the product of "bad genes" or whatever.

No excuse for anybody who talks about "bad genes." It's a bunch of crap.

Must be....Donald J. Trump!! !! :D

I want....a mix of manure from Trump, Obama,Brad Pitt, Hugh Jackman, Einstein,Carl Sagan and Micheal Phelps and Micheal Jordan, and Elvis, and Malcolm Forbes injected into me...so I can have ALL of their winning traits! :D

Just because you make yourself into a living cesspool for Ronald Reagan, or Elvis (or for whomever your idol is) its not gonna make you into clone of that person. Even this controversial unproven theory doesn't promise THAT much!.

Imagine if autism actually turns out to be like PKU----curable through a suitable diet started at birth?

It equates to being whole & balanced with a fully functioning nervous system.

You can be "social" and still have a screwed-up nervous system......

Autism is a condition, and not uncommonly a disorder-----but you are not "defective" when you have autism.

I am certainly not "defective" in any way----despite what people have told me all my life.

The key characteristics of Autism are social deficits. There’s a reason diagnostic criteria include detailed descriptions of our lack of innate social abilities.

I'd take my cousin's poop. Since our moms are identical twins, we are probably pretty genetically compatible. I'd be happy being like my cousin. He's a very well adjusted person who has always gotten along well in life.

We might have “deficits” in some areas...but we are not “defective” people just because of autism.

Ok, so via your logic my deaf friends’ hearing loss is a hearing deficit but their hearing is not defective? :?

I guess they (and some of us) get disability benefits (they just get a tax credit, not welfare) for having ability deficits and not a disability then, too? :?

It's not the same thing.

"Loss of hearing" is an objective measure, obtainable via definitive, almost absolutely objective testing.

Yet: Is a person with a hearing loss a "defective person," or "less of a person" because he/she has a hearing loss?

Do you get MY logic?

I understand about "social deficits." Those definitely exist. But what some see as "deficits" others might not see as "deficits." An assessment of "social deficits" is less objectively-derived.

If you are nasty, and you lack empathy when, say, you see somebody with a broken leg in the street----then, you are "socially defective."

If you happen to be slightly awkward in how you present yourself----and maybe your shirt doesn't quite match your pants----it is questionable whether such a person has a "social deficit."

If one says to an autistic person online, whom one doesn't know, that this person has a "social deficit," or is a "defective person," I will call out the person who says such things----because this is frequently a manifestation of bullying.

I am on the Spectrum. I have "social differences" which might be "deficits"---though that is not definite. I am, in no way, a "defective" person. I do not have "defective genes." If I have a baby, I am not passing "defective genes" onto that baby.

This is the kind of crap I used to get in the schoolyard.....that I'm "defective" because I'm not "hip" enough or whatever. BALDERDASH!
