Much more awake now: well done Angnix, wishing you many happy bird watching sessions with your new camera :D

I don't have a microwave or a dishwasher. I have had them in the past but when they died on me I didn't bother replacing them. I also gave up my car because it was too expensive and everybody talks about polluting the environment but won't give up their cars. I spend the money on taxis and public transport so I help provide a living for others and cut down my contribution to pollution. I have no overdraft now, or at least never more than I can balance the next month.

I looooove clothes though and I have far too many. Many bright coloured happy garments, red to match my hair is my favourite. I spend money on my garden because flowers give me the sense of the wonder of creation.

Uuggghhh.... Another relative tried to make me feel bad about an 80 dollar camera that brand new would cost hundreds... I don't tell them what to spend their money on and I'm in my late 30's... Seriously?

Maybe it would be better not to tell them what you do?

Indeed, family don’t need to know trifles, like what one spends ones money on.

Do you grill them on how they spend their money?

I think they're trying to be protective of you but don't let them start this precedent. You're an independent woman and you don't belong to anyone. Maybe choose one of your aunts for confidential advice if and when you want someone's opinion, but tell the rest of them to back off.

They probably think they’re looking after you

I have a friend who’s been mocking me for mail-ordering a coat from Ukraine... but he’s ended up with bailiffs taking his landlords stuff for his unpaid court fines! :wall:

Nonsense!

And I second Isabella’s advice: try your best too keep them on a need-to-know footing as far as that area goes if they’re giving you grief over harmless enjoyment of the beauty of this world.

I think that it's your own money you're spending, and your needs are met before investing in wants, then it's nobodies business but yours what you spend your money on.

To maybe add perspective,
I recently spent about $550 to build a computer (and another $100 on a monitor). Partly because I'm interested in photogrammetry, and that needs some fairly high end hardware. Partly because I've always wanted to build a computer, and I've always wanted to learn about them, and haven't ever had a chance to do either of those things.
I'm not actually good at or experienced with any of those things, but I enjoy all of it, my needs were met before I spent any money and have remained met since buying/ building it, and I feel like I'm learning a lot and having fun doing it. So it's not really anyone's business.

Who's it being selfish to? Everyone I know has invested in their interests. My dad loves football and has paid thousands in his life to watch football matches. (He's NT).

My one uncle makes me feel like I need to give him money for this or that all the time and all my stuff is a "waste of money" and my relatives treat me like a little kid...

Probably because I am a 30 something kid... Like my uncle's roommate guy who is too lol we sing Baby Shark or play the video and run people nuts

Ekhm... that's straightforward, plain exploiting

And? "The difference between a boy and a man is that the man earns for his own toys".
I know you're female but come on, you can afford your toys and enjoy them!

My uncle found out about the camera from someone else and sure enough was saying I wasted my money and there was something else (I didn't know about) that van HE bought me needed and now nobody can afford to get it...

That's so annoying when people talk too much.

I'm sorry your uncle found out about it.

I can't stand people who "turn the screw" like your uncle does.

Yay!
Guilt trip!

If the van works without whatever part it is you can probably save for it, just zone out the manipulative nonsense and do what you need to.
