Do people think you're ret*d?

Everytime I open my mouth it seems as if I just make a fool out of myself, it's pretty discouraging.
and yes, people do get the idea I'm a complete idiot until I explain that I have Asperger's and therefore don't understand half of what they're saying. <_<

Am have been classed as ret*d/slow since childhood by teachers and parents,the dev. history did seem to fit some retardation,at least,and am still get borderline IQ scores,but have no idea,or interest in whether am or not as it doesn't effect what am can and can't do either way.
Mum says things to sister like she expected am to fail because am too stupid to know any better but sister doesn't have any excuse [when she's going on about something that hasn't met her high standards],am find it funny,it's coming from a woman who has killed off most of her brain cells with alcohol.

I have been called weird and strange at school
My son has been called ret*d because other boys have seen him flapping his hands when ive taken him out and hes got over excited or had to wait.I heard some boys saying he had downsyndrome,they obviously are ignorant.

they probably learnt that off each other and don't really know what downs is,there's an advert on tv now as well [in UK] about downs which might help,it gives a address to downs-syndrome.org.uk.

Perhaps the school should have a disability/special needs awareness event,where they can get adults in with different disabilities and the school children can ask questions,to help get rid of stereotypes,they did it at the school;the college am went to was attached to [broadoak high] -as a lot of the students bullied am and other dis. students of the college,they got adults from the college [all from class am was in] to speak to the children and it did help.

Nobody thought I was ret*d, but I'm sure they thought I was weird. I was determined that nobody would think of me as ret*d or stupid. I worked hard academically to make up for my deficiencies in other areas.
