The one-drop rule is a historical colloquial term in the United States that holds that a person with any trace of African ancestry is considered black unless having an alternative non-white ancestry which he or she can claim, such as Native American, Asian, Arab, or Australian aboriginal.[1] It developed most strongly out of the binary culture of long years of institutionalized slavery.

Apparently, from what I have heard, and the article, the one drop is to get rights under the law. I don't think people consider one with less than 1/16 of a given race to be that race. Even a black would have gone 4 generations without showing any sign of being black, so they likely aren't, in any way that would encourage racism.

I know a guy who didn't get it either.
Some guy has been asking why I won't see him anymore.
I pretend to acknowledge him by saying it's because we have nothing in common.
Of course, that's not informative, so he'll just have to guess.
Should I let him get it?

WOW, you really seem interested! If you can give him the reason, try to. Maybe HE will decide HE doesn't want YOU. And I doubt he will feel inferior. After all, the idea of being the only one means that either you:

1. don't want any.
2. have something wrong.
3. turn down everyone.
4. just aren't that great.

[quote="Spokane_Girl"]
His support was low and then he picked Sarah Palin and bam his support went up. Coincidence or because he picked a woman for vice president and we have never had one before?

I'm an Alaskan and I have to say this: I really like what Palin has been doing up here, as a matter of fact most people really do like what she's been doing up here. So perhaps McCain's support went up because people like Palin for what she has done, not because she's a woman.

By the way, I still am unsure of who I want to vote for, but I just wanted to say that about Palin :P
