Sounds of some people's voices cause you mental anguish?
I've never been annoyed by a voice before, but other human sounds set me off. On the weekend, my boyfriend was over playing an old Genesis game which he had played often as a kid, and he was whistling along to the repetitive MIDI music constantly. I was trying my very best to handle it and just suck it up, because I was fully aware that he was doing nothing wrong, but it was really severely getting to me. I had to get away and get my headphones because I just couldn't handle it anymore. It wasn't even a matter of being annoying, I couldn't sit there anymore. Oddly enough, whistling by itself doesn't really bother me, just whistling along to something it seems.
Singing also sometimes sets me off, but only with certain people, mainly female.
Oh yeah. Occasionally, I can't stand my Mom's voice...it's like sandpaper on my skin. She's talking too much, too fast, and in a tone that drives me crazy. I usually just make an excuse and retreat to another room. Normally my Mom's voice is fine, I think it has more to do with what's going on with me at the time.
For me it's a particular sharp, strident adult female voice - it's like nails on a blackboard to my mind - Ellen DeGeneres has that kind of voice and even worse, she's a loud mouth shouter.
Sometimes that sharp strident tone I'm thinking of seems to be the voice of bullies who pick on people they see as weaker than themselves.
Just hearing it, I feel instantly nauseated. I can't concentrate on my own thoughts when I'm exposed to it, it's like being vocally stabbed.
