Do you get ANGRY when people think you are "dumb"?

I know what you mean. I know that tone. I hate it especially when someone goes through a long wind up to tell you something you already knew.

Have you ever tried to confront someone about using a different tone of voice? I constantly confront my father and he always responds with "I can't help it" or "it's just the way I am". Or he says I'm projecting / imagining things. He says talking to me is like walking on egg-shells because I get upset so easily.


Your father sounds like my husband. :-\

Last week I met a girl whom I had talked to before, and she asked me if I lived in an institution (she didn't know about my AS). I don't (have a home supporter or what you call it 2 times a week though), and asked her why she thought that.
She said it was the way I was talking, in a very quiet manner (not quiet as quiet in sound), and she had 2 brothers who lived in an institution, so therefore she had heard institution people talk in a similar way.
Another reason was that she had seen I had said no to some men who wanted to flirt or something like that, and she got the thought because girls on institutions always had to say no in such a situation. (So if you don't live in an institution, you are supposed to say yes to them all, or how?? 8O )
I told her that I had AS. She thought it made sense.
I didn't get upset, because she might have seen something different in me, just wondered a bit. I would never ask other people such a question myself.

Another time I have been asked if I lived in a sheltered housing, because the one who asked had seen me become very confused trying to find my way out of a room I didn't know on beforehand..
