Neurotypical is meant to include big variation in each hoooman brain/mind trait that we know about, such that individual differences are accommodated within this big variation. Autistic is meant to label certain combinations of eggstremes in certain traits, such as eggstreme social impairment, such as lack of some of the elements of social cognition from social orienting to joint attention to eye gaze. People who have these automatic and seemingly mandatory social cognitive brain functions from early childhood are referred to as typically-developing in autism research, and we focus on autistic differences from them.

Norny I have an idea! Why don't you start another thread, with a poll, and we could vote for the word we would prefer instead of neurotypical. Myself I vote for either NS (not on spectrum) or NA (non-autistic)! And I will use whatever word wins
(even if it turns out to be "allistic" lol)

I don't see what the problem is. I just use it as a term for people who are not autistic. It has no real positive or negative implications, though I have noticed that some people use it as an insult, much like how "autistic" is sometimes used. It shouldn't be eliminated though. That's like saying people should stop using the word "gay" because some ignorant bigots use it as an insult. The word "gay" doesn't have a real positive or negative connotation, and it's silly when people attach those sort of connotations to it.
I'm going to continue using the word "neurotypical", whether people like it or not. Period, end of story.

For some reason, people here get weirdly precious about "neurotypical."
It was another thread about "neurotypical" that prompted me to post much less frequently, because I can only handle so much preciousness in my life.
NT is the only word for them that makes sense. It goes to show that their brain is wired differently than ours (which it is).
Same here. I will never use the term allistic, as I find it ridiculous.

This . I mean seriously .
I mean it's not like you're saying fa***t, c**t, b***h.
O dear. The website censored those words.
That's because theyre offensive and used to discriminate against minorities or those less powerfull (ie women and gay people)
And as a group, neurotypicals are neither.
How about "no?"
Yes, I agree, it shouldn't be removed. The widespread variation of definition that it has, and the ways in which it is used should be. Essentially, you would be replacing a term with a new one.
I'm not thankful for this condescending reply. I am disappointed as I expected more from an intelligent individual like yourself.

Yes, this is how you use it, and the way you use it is how it was originally intended to be used. That is not the inherent meaning that it has now, however.
It is not like using the word gay. It would be like using the word gay to describe everyone with traits that resemble homosexuality, without distinguishing whether or not they were male or female, other genders etc. I forgot my other reasons for this, but they're either in the main post or scattered throughout the thread.
It was another thread about "neurotypical" that prompted me to post much less frequently, because I can only handle so much preciousness in my life.
Yes, because the ASD superiority posts are so much more refreshing, and require no balancing out whatsoever. This is not a matter of being termed 'typical', as it seems you are implying. I don't care that the term has typical in it, as from certain perspectives, it is highly accurate.
I don't understand why you're being so pretentious, honestly.
This.
Thanks for the circle-jerk, yet another meaningless post by a self-proclaimed intellectual.
The actual meaning behind my post (and the post itself in majority of cases) has almost being completely ignored, and there has not once been given an opportunity for proper discussion. The unnecessary amount of passive aggression contained within this thread is utterly disgusting.
The very same people that complain about unfairness concerning other issues show a complete lack of respect when it's something they happen to just 'disagree' so strongly with. In every thread that I've responded to, or have replied to, I have put effort in to understand the point of view by the same people.
Please tell me, why was I deserving of all these posts? What have I done so wrong that made many of you so spiteful?
That is exactly the way in which it should be used.

I don't care if you stop using the term "neurotypical" or start using the term "allistic" or whatever, I'm just saying that I'm going to continue using the term "neurotypical", and that there's no point in trying to "eliminate" it.
If there is an issue with the term "neurotypical", it has less so to do with the term itself as with the animosity many aspies have for NTs. It's understandable, many of us feel "oppressed" by NTs and the lack of understanding some of them can have, and I have definitely felt this way a few times. It's a two-way street though, I feel that NTs should do a better job of trying to understand us, and we should try our best to understand them. This is what neurodiversity is all about; the idea of embracing the wide spectrum of different neurotypes, including aspies, auties, "neurotypicals", people with add/adhd, schizophrenics, etc.
Actually that wasn't a circle jerk, that was two people who disagree with what you say but agree with each other. People have a right to disagree or ignore you all they like and I'm not sure exactly why you have become so aggressive. Their comments weren't rude, they just dismissed what you said as it simply doesn't work for them. Get over it. Nobody has the right to force their opinion on anybody and as far as I can see, that is what they were pointing out to you.
I use the term NT and will continue to do so and am getting really pissed off by people attempting to censor a website where autistic people should feel safe to vent their feelings. I am currently being forced out of my job by an NT, a small minded egotistical little man intimidated by my brain. Are you going to go on other non autistm related boards and preach the same message? If not, why not? That is where the work needs to be done, not here.

I'm not forcing my opinion on anybody, no one in question even began to discuss with me. The only thing that came close was Dianthus claiming it was not a fault of anyone but my own for my views, which I could have accepted, but it was without anything else to say, and followed by highly dismissive posts. A lot of posts detracted from the original topic and followed a 'circle-jerk' method of not actually bothering to consider what I had written appropriately, rather they bounced off one another (yours is additive to that) in a way that mimics bullying. I'm not emotionally affected by it all, it's just so ridiculous.
You completely contradicting yourself in that it is you forcing your opinion (and others, who you feel 'teamed' with) on to me. The fact that you needed to post this without even referencing the purpose of the thread highlights your need to feel superior (as was already evidenced by its content). I'm really glad you'd disagree with me, your pack mentality along with the other things I mentioned are blatantly disgusting.
Feeling safe to vent feelings is far different from being extremist. I don't even need to provide analogies as to why that is true. That is one of the reasons I made this thread.
And speaking of venting feelings, why would it then not be ok for me to vent mine? Your entire post spawns literally from prejudice.

Yeah yeah. Ok then. You carry on lecturing on how everybody should behave and stamping your feet when people don't engage; but go ahead label me an extremist and dripping with prejudice. You were totally right, absolutely. I was wrong. Happy now?
