It also seems like a fixation choice to me. Like the guy in your article. What if he decided at an early age to focus on calendars instead of music? He would probably be a pretty good calendar calculator instead of a DJ. I think people will always be drawn to what makes them feel the best, especially people with ASD.

Excellent!! ! Bingo. I believe it's a form of imprinting....as you stated; it very well could have been something else THAT sparked his interest.

Can you imagine the implications this would mean on the Autist and Education IF what you
propose is true......

IF Autists are exposed early enough to a variety of different things, the sciences, arts, trades, etc .....and gravitate toward something THAT becomes their special interest; who knows what the possibilities could be with the help of a mentor.

All children should have that kind of education. Unfortunately most in the US don't.

Hello,

The 'CBS 60 Minutes' broadcast has profiled people on the Autism Spectrum; some of whom are able to profit financially from their exceptional abilities. Yet, it must be asked just how can trustworthy people (also trusted by families of adults on the Autism Spectrum) be located and retained in managing "daunting" business-related agendas?

Any recommendations regarding specific people/agencies in the SF Bay Area who've had experience in advocating on behalf of Asperger adults in such areas as workplace, or business agendas; which would be seen as "very daunting" (where self-advocacy alone may not be sufficient) through "the eyes" of Asperger adults?

Would such advisors also assist in financial agendas (that periodically go beyond day-to-day budgeting concerns) e.g., the purchasing of automobiles as an example?

Personally, I feel that my strengths relate to 'information processing' (See STORY); that is reassesing just what constitutes relevant Internet content e.g., reclaiming important information which too often "gets lost in the shuffle of too much information - so to speak!"

STORY: March 2012 Story: Autism Linked to Superior Information Processing Skills.

Thank-you

How is AASCEND instrumental in recommending and supporting advisors/advocates?

There is too little information in the Asperger communities regarding specific resources on advocacy!

I cannot be the only person in this forum; who is STUNNED that the discussion on 'finding people (other than family) who advocate on behalf of Asperger savants on business agendas' is receving alomost no follow-up on WrongPlanet!

It was important to mention the CBS '60 Minutes' reports on savants; as such stories have helped raise public awareness on the needs, and talents alike in the Autism community over the years. Yet, with the growth of Internet communications e.g., WrongPlanet, '60 Minutes' and AASCEND agency are no longer the only resources providing (too often overlooked) concerns of the Autism community!

Thank-you
