Do people with aspergers have a certain dress sense?

The grounds and the Chartroom are casual, with most people milling about for a burger or pint of beer. I guess sloppy-preppy would be the best word for it, even during Regatta. There's a formal dining room upstairs but it isn't always open, and it's smart-casual. The only time it's really formal would be an Ambassadors' Ball, but I don't go to those. My dad and grandfather founded and physically constructed the first club, so I have a legacy membership. Otherwise I won't even go.

I was at an upmarket steakhouse the other day that happened to have a dress code of "smart casual"; people ignored it anyway, turning up in shorts and graphic t-shirts. I was the only man there in a suit and tie

I wonder how long it will be before members of White's in London start turning up in tracksuits. After all, standards of dress are completely subjective, right?

Sounds interesting, Isabella (the ancestry bit) :)

I've worked as a stevedore (thank you Kraftie for teaching me the word many moons ago) between 16 and 18 and that's where my maritime experience starts and ends.

The worst is when people wear a ball cap in a restaurant. It's not allowed at my yacht club (heavens that sounds pretentious; I don't mean it to -- my membership is free and I don't even own a boat), but I've seen it happen at other places.

I estimate that we're only twenty years from seeing members of the House of Commons turning up in t-shirts and jeans. T-shirts and jeans are already the de facto formal dress for people (I should say "children") of my age. I have even heard of people turning up to funerals dressed this way - being encouraged to. It's sickening and shows how dangerous relativism is.

There are objectively good standards of dress: the suit and tie for men, and blouses and dresses/skirts for women. Full stop.

If I owned such a restaurant, I'd pull it off.

That's great! I thought you mentioned that you have only been on a boat (three?) times, but that's still exciting. My dad and grandfather built our boats by hand and I've posted them before, on Post a Pic. Sadly, the boats (and the men) are long gone, but I go to the club for nostalgia and family celebrations now and then. The atmosphere is so nice!

It was 90 long, 160 high. I sailed it a few times... Never been on it though.

I'd give anything for a high-end yacht. 8)

I built mine up from a kit of parts. I wanted to try something different from trains.

My other grandfather collected trains and built an elaborate track system. I think I mentioned that to you before.

The train track attire was definitely casual!

Yes... You have said. Lionel.

The yacht I had was a Fairwind 900. I gave it away a few months ago.

Re baseball caps in restaurants:

I remember clapping the first time I saw the above scene. "They don't sell hotdogs here" - "thank you"

The Sopranos was the last good TV show produced, although I take exception to the profanity, sex and violence.

Sometimes women who have lost their hair through alopecia or chemotherapy wear baseball caps.
