Sam is an interesting character. I got the impression Benny didn't, exactly, trust Sam that much, at first. I need to watch the movie again to be sure because I am going by my fuzzy memories. Benny is the protective brother who has accepted life with his sis and suddenly, there's Sam. Benny is used to his and Joon's life being a certain way and now he's got to work around Sam and he's unsure of how it will work out so he has trepidation.
Since Sam is so quiet, he, like you and your avatar pic, might have been drawn to somewhat mute, mime-like characters such as Buster and Charlie because he can relate to them and they have figured out unconventional ways to express themselves and charm others without actually talking to them.
I think Sam is pretty cool because he was able to connect to these characters early on and emulate them, recognizing a common bond and incorporating the strategies these characters used, even though they are "characters" and not actual persons, still, Sam was able to figure out how to charm others by using the same techniques as Buster and Charlie.

With Hovis and the Hedgehog. I picture someone who likes gardens and being out in the yard, especially with little critters like rabbits, hedgehogs, and birds, squirrels too, if they have them in the British Isles. I never see squirrels when I see footage of England. I have a squirrel and a couple of birds in my yard who like to be near me especially when I am planting seed because they like the insects.

This is absolutely accurate for me. I do love gardens, woods, countryside and animals. Although I chose the animal randomly, I suppose a hedgehog could be seen to be quite like me - lives quietly and avoids people if possible and can seem 'prickly' when approached!

Is this an Aspie thing? I do remind myself once in a while that an avatar is a person's choice of an avatar and not a photo of themselves, but when I'm not consciously reminding myself I tend to forget and see the person as their avatar.

Eg: I usually think that Spokane_Girl is a cowgirl, Hovis a mouse, ManErg a donkey, etc. It never occurred to me, for example, that Warsie may NOT have afro hair and walk dancing all the time... That Hartzofspace may not be a fairy, that Sartresue may not have a caricature face in black and white, etc. I always think that KingdomOfRats has a black-and-white cat's face, and that Postperson writes her post on a laptop under a tree branch in a very uncomfortable sitting position.

Does this happen to you sometimes?

I still picture you as the little green tree frog with big bright eyes. I can't imagine you being a bull sporting a tie and nose ring.

You're an Alliance plot flying some sort of snubfighter or involved with the Rebel Fleet

EDIT: isn't that technically the New Republic seal (due to all the stars and whatnot around the crest)

My avatar is actually a picture of me when I was younger.

Believe it or not, my picture is me. No, I did not get it off of a male model magazine. I took it at school today.

Greentea, personally I don't take too much notice of one's avatar for, I often see it as a symbolic reference of his/her personality or something that person tends to like and makes them up as a unique individual.. After all, I don't wear some Chinese operatic mask just, choose to be inobtrusive at times like the character behind the mask that's all..

Avatars is good. They helps me to get a visual image/profile/character/easier remembering of a person Im talking to or see talking here as I have hard to remember names and words, as nicknames are but I do pay attention to the nicknames too, its just makes it more colorful to have avatars as well... meow...
