Does anyone here ever find getting through the day so much of a chore that you sometimes wish you were dead? Where just being alive at all is just too much hard work? Living with all the bad things in life? Do you ever wish you were never put on this earth? I only ask because it's happened to me quite a lot lately and I'm worried I might end up killing myself because of it.

I have felt suicidal, especially at this time of year; I blame it on Valentine's Day as I am no good in relationships.

I always say try and get some moderate exercise (not too much though) that is a way I help myself get through the tricky times. :)

right at this moment, yes very much so:cry: it's difficult to find reasons to go on when it's such a struggle just to get simple things done. just wish something nice would happen!

Previously I would say, loneliness is a depression and depression is pain. How could this pain be worse because of Valentines Day unless it was because of you making it more so. But I guess no it like the anniversary of never receiving a card of romance or had someone say I love you, even though I did have girlfriends.

It happened more when I was depressed and now happens cyclically. Are you physically taking care of yourself right now, as in eating and sleeping but enough but not too much? Walkign around outside the house if you get the chance? I ask this because if I don't take care of those things I generally feel like CRAP.

Yes, I often feel life is too much of a hassle. Too much of a chore. I just pray to God and HE comes and gives me comfort.

Yes, if things are just not fun, and you're not locked into there being some higher purpose, the possibility of utter futility arises in any intelligent mind.

"I take it that no man is educated who has never dallied with the thought of suicide"
Willam James.
(give me a bit of time and I can find something remarkably similar from C S Lewis)

I've had my doubts for a long time, suspecting the universe is bereft of purpose.
The basic cure for this is not to notice. Or invent a smaller cosier universe of your own devising.

Yeah, I felt that way many times. In my own way I found it helps to find something to do, take a walk or exercise, practice my guitar, volunteer at the animal shelter, or a food pantry or soup kitchen. (It's always nice to be appreciated and volunteers are highly appreciated.) And like Johnnie said, you do get better at it, with time and practice. It's just looking for any little thing that helps you feel better and takes the edge off the frustration.

Peace

I sometimes get that feeling, where life itself feels like a job. It's creepy how accurately some people here described what I've been feeling my entire life, on an on-and-off basis. During the past few months, I started turning to religion to give myself something to believe in. But I guess time will tell if it'll make life seem less like a job.

Aspie1, if that works, can you please post the "what and how" here?

I had to dis-adopt a religion that pretty much worked for me socially, because I concluded it simply wasn't true. I'm looking for something I can believe in, but it's got to be believable.

I find it a believable possibility that consciousness is simply a random experiment by unthinking evolutionary forces, but that does not automatically eliminate the possibility of a higher purpose, though I haven't found one yet I've got confidence in.

Yep. But it's mostly when I stop and deeply look at life.

I find keeping my mind on other things helps.

I only feel like life is a chore when I look forward to having to get a job to support myself. My only option is to somehow become successful with something on the side that I actually enjoy.

Although Socrates declared that the unexamined life is not worth living,
Oedipus retorted that well-examined life might prove unlivable.

I wish I'd known that some time ago...
