Compounded interest investments

I just now started on my economics books, however I was wondering if there are investors here. I am placing a theoretical number of one million dollars to invest wisely for the long term. The investment period would be indefinite with goal for substantial sustainable earned income from the investment indefinitely by the base interest yields.

A savings account goes from 1-2 percent a year but savings certificate go up to 5.1% yearly if used for 5 years without touching the account.

What would be the best investment for a million dollars that is like a savings account where there is an interest earned?

What is the formula for calculating the compounded interests earning of a savings certificate account for 10 years at 5.11%?

What other types of investments are guarteed and offer a higher % yearly or monthly yeild (am I using the correct terminology)?

How often is the compounding - Monthly?

Formula - S = P(1 + r/k)n

S is final value of the investment

P is your initial investment

R is apr

K is compounding periods in the year

N is total number of interest periods

r/k is percentage rate per interest period

Does not seem like something that can be done in my mind.
