I see a funny moment in a t.v. show and have to rush and tell my family OMG that scene was funny X happen. I blurt it out without thinking that mom/dad were discussing something then I get the same line of "I shouldn't interrupt we were talking!" Sometimes people pause and to me pause = done but NTs pause for some odd reason (don't know why.) and I don't catch the pause and assume they are done talking since they actually you know STOPPED TALKING!

Can anyone relate? Thanks!

Yeah... oblivious almost to situational awareness. I catch it too late.

Yes.

The most frustrating thing to me is that "normal" people seem to me to be allowed to jump in when there is a slight pause. It feels like a double standard.

Yep. You wouldn't believe how many times I've gotten a lecture about how disrespectful butting in is! If I hear a pause, I think that means it's my turn to talk. I don't understand why NTs don't see it that way.

Yes, I also have the feeling of a "double standard". I don´t know what they make different, it seems to me that they jump in like I do and it´s okay, but when I do it, it´s the wrong moment. Maybe I just don´t recognize the difference. :?

Yes. I have really, really tried to work on this because it can be very embarrassing and rude.

One thing that can help you know if they're actually done talking is paying attention to what they're saying. If the pause is obviously not the end of what they're saying (in context), then they're not done.

People pause either to let what they've just said sink in (making a point), or because they're gathering their thoughts.

There's also the matter of not just trying to switch to an entirely different topic just because someone stopped speaking for a moment. Especially if another person was listening to them, that other person may be about to speak on the same subject. That would mean it's still not time yet to bring up something else.

Unless the house is on fire or something like that. In that case, don't wait. Interrupt anyway. :)

What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".

I often talk over people when they had not finished talking...I don't know why. I know I end up doing that thing where I go "oh sorry, you carry on speaking" and they go "no you speak" and I go "no you were still talking, you carry on" and they go "no you speak" and I go "no its ok you speak"....

I think someone eventually finishes what they were saying. I do it on phones and in person.

Either that I don't reply when I am supposed to...again I don't know why. I just get a complaint from someone because they were waiting for an answer. Sometimes they didn't ask me a question though, they made a statement instead. In which case answer to what exactly? At those times all I can do is stare at them like this:

8O 8O

Not much else I can do really

I hate when people do that. I don't see the point of making a statement to ask a question.

Yes, I often speak at the wrong times and don't get when people are pausing for me to speak.
