I'm curious if anyone else has this problem, and if so, how do you deal with it? If I am reading something I am interested in, or really focused on something I am doing, or just zoned out (maybe thinking or daydreaming, maybe not) I shut out the rest of the world. This can be a problem if I need to be alert to other people or sounds, like the phone. I just don't hear them. People can be standing a couple of feet away, talking to me, and if they arn't in my line of vision, I won't even know they are there. If I'm zoned out, it even startles me when I come out of it and suddenly, there's this person trying to get my attention. If they say my name several times, usually in increasing volume, eventually I notice they are there. This makes me look like a real space cadet, and can be a problem at work because I don't hear the walkie talkie radio, I don't hear people speaking to me, and I don't hear the phone. Any suggestions?

I have this same problem. My theory is that it's my brain shutting down from over stimulation. I wish I could be of more help.
