Example 1:
Parent: "Calm down, calm down. You're misreading me as being angry and getting yourself worked up."
Actually, no. I'm just in a bad mood and don't feel like complying with you today.

Example 2:
Tutor: "You haven't done the homework. Did you need me to rephrase the question?"
No, I understood the question fine. I just didn't feel like answering it.


My parents are particularly bad for this. My mother recently read a "Guide to Asperger Syndrome" and since then she's been applying it to every aspect of my life. If I think somebody is being a jerk, it's never because they are actually being a jerk - it's because I'm "misreading" them. :roll:

At least they're trying. NT's do not read minds. You have to tell them as best you can if they get it wrong. Repeat: they are not mind readers.

I thought the definition of NT was they can read minds. Just not ours ;-)
