"You write too well to have autism"

Do you ever hear this? Especially online, when people only know you through your writing. This is one of the reasons I usually keep my autism secret - I hate it when people assume that because I don't type like I'm mentally ret*d, that I can't possibly have autism.

Yes, I do get this. In fact, I have had one person tell me that he could deduce from my writing that I must have *very mild* autism.

Then again, people tell me that my posts are very emotional when I am feeling very little emotion at all that I can identify when I write them.

Damn, I never get that. I must be autistic or something.

Usually I change words order, mix singular/plural masculin/fememin, repete words in different places of the sentence and make other vanish.... and of course, I always read what I wrote to correct it. However, I'm quite a good writer when I have written (and corrected!) stories. They're different skills.

Yes, I get this all the time. I've written books of poetry which I sell as ebooks and I have been told I write well. Creative writing was one of my best subjects at school.

If only I could speak as well... I'd be quite popular I'd imagine But I can't, so I'm not.

My thoughts flow easily from my brain to my fingers but get stuck halfway when coming out my mouth!

Writing has always been my preferred method of communication. This way nobody can see how long it took me to put my thoughts into words, and nobody can hear my trip over my words.

I think rascal is being sarcastic. Although its ironic that it's not the opposite of what they are saying. Is that right?

I just thought it was a stupid assumption that people make so I was stating an equally stupid alternative for comparison. That and I'm very medicated if you know what I mean. I mean hell, the average American can't figure out the difference between 'their, there, and they're'. How do people expect me to write? But I guess it goes beyond "you're too good at writing". There's also, "You speak too well". And an old favorite... "You're too normal". What a lot of people really think is, "You're not a twitching non-verbal mess in the middle of a meltdown so, you can't possibly be on the autism spectrum.

Ah, I was just confused about what you meant, is all. I agree with you - people often seem to think that unless you're an extremely severe case, that you're not autistic, or just a mild case, or something.

I think you just hit the heart of the matter. What pisses me off the most is that people think 'mild' autism should be easy to deal with. Mild autism a.k.a AS, screws up a lot of lives.
