I -loathe- phone calls. But with certain people I'm alright with talking on the phone with them (although I would prefer other forms of communication). When I'm on the phone though, it's much worse when I am talking on the phone in front of other people. I get extra quiet, usually, and if the person on the other end is someone like my mother, who talks very loudly on the phone, I have to have privacy before I can speak/speak loudly enough. The call does not even need to be of a private nature.

Anyone else have something similar going on, where you have a hard time speaking on the phone while in front of other people?

Yes, I absolutely HATE talking on the phone in front of others, I will almost ALWAYS try to be in a private situation when I talk on the phone. I hate talking on the phone, too, it's amazing how long will I wait to "make that phone call" lol

Same exact thing going on with me, haha. I take forever to make myself make phone calls that I need to make - sometimes (often) I don't even do it at all.

I do this but I didn't think it was to weird.

I just want to have my conversation be private and just between myself and the caller.

I very rarely make or answer phone calls. If I do, I definitely don't do it in front of others. I'm anxious enough about the call to deal with the anxiety of talking in front of others. Clearly this is a problem area at work ... :-(

I never make phonecalls except for making appointments and stuff. It's never personal calls.

Yes, I loathe making phone calls in front of people, especially at work. I hate open plan offices (which nearly all offices are these days) where everyone around you can hear your business calls. Even worse, for some reason, when it's a sort of scripted call, or you are making the same call to multiple clients, so the people around you can hear you spouting the same lines over and over. It is so unnatural to do, and people listening in makes it 10x worse. If I was in my own office I could relax and change the script around a bit, go with the flow more and definitely do a better job.

The worst thing: Your boss tells you to call someone about something then sits down right near you.

I find making phone calls in front of others nightmarish and its part of my job. Luckily theres only a 1 hour overlap where others work with me so I can accomplish any other tasks during that time and not have to make too many calls in front of others. The worst is when my boss comments on a phonecall afterwards :| Once everyone is gone I'm usually fine :)

Sometimes, I don't even answer my phone. This often results in people thinking I'm ignoring them :?

But I can't have a conversation over the phone in front of people. I feel so anxious, like they're judging my conversation or something.

Never thought about it, but I do always leave the room on a phone call. Not sure if it's weird or not though.
