There have been a few people who have posted about recently having gone in and gotten diagnosed. Almost as if it was a straightforward process like getting diagnosed with high cholesterol.

I'm wondering if it's easier in the UK including Canada and Australia etc. Than it is in the USA. Both economically and procedurally.

How much different is it to get diagnosed with Aspergers than with any other condition like say tinnitus?

Is it too difficult or too expensive in some instances for people to want to go through with it?

Well just my experience but here in Canada I have officially given up. Few psychologists/psychiatrists seem to even know what Autism is exactly and if they do they only see it as affecting children only (since once you become an adult you magically get better  ). Sorry if I sound like a broken record, but I'm sick and tired of hearing "you meet all the criteria but you can't have Aspergers because you have a full time job". I was taken back by how complicated it is and figured it would be a one hour process especially given my extensive research. As it stands now, I have two choices: pay a few hundred to someone a WP member referred me to but this person refuses to diagnose without a parent present (not an option) or take a couple days off work to pay for a full psychological profile ($1200) that only a fraction will be covered by insurance. I'm not about to pay money I don't have to tell me what I already know and to provide assistance that isn't offered.

Both my parents have tinnitus and it was much easier for them to get diagnosed that it would be for be to be diagnosed with Aspergers. I would like to sit down with those recently diagnosed because I am having a impossible job since I'm at the mild end of the spectrum. I heard a recent radio ad claiming 90% of those with ASD's don't work where I live. Well its no wonder because they are apparently the only ones being examined and diagnosed! I should also mention I spoke with a local WP member who was diagnosed by a family doctor but a) I don't believe he is qualified to do so and b) Knowing what I know about ASDs I HIGHLY doubt this person has Aspergers. I don't want a 'pity' diagnosis but a formal one by a proper psychologist or psychiatrist.
