This will probably sound weird but I feel like I am always happiest and least anxious when I am living with a family. My family (either half) is generally best, always like living with them but here at law school 3/5 states away year that's not possible lol. When I was living in AZ I lived with families twice (technically three times but the mother was a total b*** and that sorta ruined things, long story) and of the dozen+ roommates I had that was always my favorite. They didn't drink all the time, they all generally went to sleep at a decent hour (even though I generally didn't lol), always someone to talk to/hang out with, and I think it just always felt like the living environment that is most natural to me. The question is... How do I make this a reality.... Especially when I think most, even here, wouldn't understand.

It’s pretty understandable. You feel solidity with them. And they sound like good people.

No family to live with right now though, all by myself. I think that's part of why I am so stressed, nothing to take me out of my anxious state. I know I like communication when I am like this but sometimes it's really hard to find people to communicate with, even online.

You might not like this....but the remedy in most cases is distraction.

Coming on WP gives you a way to come out of yourself and communicate with others.

Would you be interested in renting a room, maybe a student room, maybe a rooming house? There would be others an I guess you could meet them first.

Sharing a house, especially with other graduate and professional students, would probably work pretty well for you. You don't have to start from scratch, just look for houses with a vacancy.

Another option is renting a room from a family that owns a bigger house than they need.

Otherwise, a graduate student dorm might provide similar benefits.

People my own age like to drink, like to be up at all hours, etc. I tend not to enjoy rooming with them as much

Not all people your age are like that.

And you also have the option of renting a room in a large house owned by relatively older, sober people.

Dude - you live in Utah and you can't find any non-drinkers to live with? In Utah? You aren't really trying!

Contact your local Mormon bishop and explain your situation, the problem will take care of itself. :)

However! There might a Mormon community in Pennsylvania, and you could contact their bishop ... I'm serious. I'm going to try that for myself here in Montreal.

There. I just left a message for the local Mormon bishop.

I googled "Church of ... Latter Day Saints" - must use their current name, "Mormon" won't do it.

They have a "Locate Near You" button and up came a temple 3 miles away from me. I phoned and spoke to a nice woman who listened to my situation and said she'd pass that to the bishop.

So far, so good. I'll keep you posted.

Thank you, Bea and Kraftie. :)

Nobody called yet 8pm. I guess it's hard to light a fire under a Mormon bishop. Especially since it's such a small community. I used to work with a Mormon so I know a little about it.

No coffee(ok). The Mormons figured out organic food years ago, maybe I could pay them to include me at meals. They buy in bulk for the entire community. I'd have become a Mormon long ago if it wasn't for faith problems.

And I don't know about their custom of dealing with sinners by visiting them in groups. Conscience is not free with them. Suppose they think sleeping is a sin? (My RC parents did.)

"I, a world-class sinner, offer to invade your homes." Meh. Maybe not. But they're nice people, usually. Just lotsa unbreakable rules.
