Do you think that aspies have a distinct writing style?

Probably not. My writing style is quite sloppy and somewhat illegible, but there are probably aspies with perfectly fine writing. It may have more to do with hand/eye coordination. I just dont know.

My handwriting was awful when I was in school and I'd at least like to think its' improved since. As for my actual dialogue, I really can't say. I'd love more perspective about the differences between getting a letter from an aspie vs. an NT... Last week a rather quirky friend & I were discussing sending out letters to our influences and friends, I need all the perspective I can get about how that might unravel...

I think there are differences yes. We are often more long-winded and tend to use more examples and give far more details and write far more and longer than they do if we have something to say about anything.

Do you mean style of writing by hand? or style of writing like in posts?

As far as my posts go, i'm told i have a distinctive style that seems to stand out. Basically in my NT forums i come out as someone different/unique. Fortunately in a good way.

I've noticed that as well. I also notice that you pick usually use pictures of cute and dark haired guys for your avatars. That's how I found you on other websites.

WP members recognizing one another on other pages bodes well for folks' ability to understand my messages within the confines of an envelope & address, but I'm still very curious about the commonalities between NT reactions to any & all written messages from spectrumites. I really never gave it much thought until quite recently...

On forums and instant messaging, I've been told that I'm very blunt but articulate in my choice of words.

I wrote a piece for a friend's website recently. My style is sarcautistic, to coin a word.

I agree with Skilpadde -at least that's what I do. I tend to give a lot of examples and explain things over and over to make sure everybody understands what I intend to say -hence the long texts to express only a little idea.

I took an online test which claimed to analyse writing style and use this to tell you which famous writer you are most similar to. I got Douglas Adams (of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy).

Yes, this is how I interpreted the question. As opposed to the penmanship which people seemed to be going on about above. I got confused there a minute and wondered whether I had misinterpreted the question.

I managed to train myself to be less long winded and write every sentence like I was summing everything up. I probably still give a whole lot of examples though.

I think what separate me from other people (mostly NTs) is that I use a lot of words I pick up on reading books on psychology and neuroscience. And there's a lot of sci-fi references and quotes in there that I don't usually bother explaining.

I can also mimic the writing styles of my favorite authors. Soon I'll start writing just like Philip Pullman from the His Dark Materials trilogy.

My natural style is verbose and pedantic.

I work very hard to keep things terse and pithy, but some ideas demand a degree of elaboration or they lose significant meaning.

Style is another thing altogether. Trying to write in a particular style with emotional and psychological impact is excruciating.

This Although I worry it irritates people and my boyfriend tells me 'that's not how normal people express things' (as a response to the way I talk as well as the way I write), so I'm trying to practice expressing things in a less detailed less thorough way, but I find that hard.

I tend to explain the same thing over and over again in different ways and I do the same when talking. It drives some people nuts but I just want to make sure they understand. I also tend to waffle on a bit and add lots of unnecessary details. I try to keep it terse. I'm better in writing it down or typing because I can change things. Even when I post on WP, I'll re edit my posts like 4 or 5 times correcting grammatical errors, wording things better etc. I'm a bit of a perfectionist when I have to be.

As for physical writing style on paper, my handwriting looks like chooks have held a running race across my page. Also, I'm a southpaw. Don't know if that's got anything to do with it.

I also tend to digress a lot, but I digress! See?!
