i wrote a book, i got a book deal from hustling so hard and not saying no for an answer and put the book together by collaging fragments of notes, from my fragmented perception. i have no idea how i wrote this book, i did not feel conscious... i have never read any books, i can barely process books. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_writing)

people around me tell me i am "creative", a "genius" and that i am "so smart" yet i failed high school, almost failed elementary school. i was going to drop out of both but dropped out of high school....

i feel like i live behind a glass wall, i feel like i am not smart in the ways society says in smart and i genuinely feel stupid yet people tell me i am intelligent?

WTF?

I honestly don't know how to feel if someone said one or the other. People probably think your book is genius, because you have never read one. It is unique. Good for you! Don't go getting any ideas by reading more, or taking anyones advice, if that is the case. Just my opinion. Just pull another rabbit out of your hat. Most writers are rather boring. You may have done something that is not. I hope you go far!

Yes.
Me too. I s#cked in school due to dyslexia, ADD & a low vision disorder. I'm not into intellectual stuff or having intellectual conversations & I like things others think are stupid & find em funny.

All the time. I didn't get straight A's in school until I started getting help with my school work, I needed help with almost every assignment in class, I feel slow, I had a low verbal IQ and I would score low on the tests for overall IQ. Then I get told by people I am very smart. But yet I have also been told I am slow or close to being ret*d or not very bright.

Same exact for me. I tried regular school for the 8th grade and totally flunked out. So I'm back in a total special ed school. Don't see any way I could even get a GED at this point because I have a very hard time understanding a lot of academic things. And am no good at philosophical things and stuff like that....But everyone on forums keeps telling me how amazingly smart I am for my age and have even been nicknamed "Little Eisenstein". I really don't get how I can be both stupid and smart.

I don't feel stupid, I just feel like my abilities are not evenly distributed. I am what people would call "book smart" and I got a lot of extremely high test scores in school, but I still do a lot of dumb things, especially when it comes to social situations and "common sense".

I've been called "smart" before; however, I lack the motivation to do anything with it. I still don't believe I am smart since I see myself only as average intelligence but I have the ability to see the truth in things quite easily.

I'm like that too, I feel stupid even though some people compliment me on some particular things, I get called "sharp", "deep thinker", "amazing artist" mostly. But I still feel so stupid because I'm very stupid when it comes to school subjects, my grades were always so low and I can't depend on myself.

You can be smart in some areas but confused by others. I think that's a big part in being autistic. You could tell someone everything there is to know about something and just overwhelm them with knowledge, but if they ask you how to flirt, you're completely clueless. That's asperger's in a nutshell, but you should never shame yourself or pretend like you're stupid for it, because it just isn't true at all.

One thing is for sure. When someone looks at me and says "smart minds think alike". I have no idea what they are talking about. Don't think they do either.

Yes all the time, in fact I feel even more of a ret*d when people say I am "Very Smart". I simply just assume that they say that is a patronizing apporach for being autistic and that this is a simple conspiracy they are placing in my head.

They never say I am intelligent or skilled, simply "VERY SMART". A woman even once told me "You are very smart, you should go to school!". Even though all she wanted me to do is simply use me as a person for cheap labor. It's very crushing and annoying when people say that. It also seems that they are playing a conspiracy when they are saying that.

I suppose what is next that they can praise that I can't count from 1 to 10. Then I'll whipe the floors for them and kiss there ass.

*raises hand*

I absolutely do, at times. I may have a knack for memorizing trivia and working with computers, both of which earn me a lot of positive attention, but in a lot of ways, I feel like a complete idiot. People tend to assume that if you're smart in one area, you're probably smart in a whole bunch of other areas. I would almost consider myself to be an intelligent person, except that I can be quite lacking in common sense at times, and I often struggle with a lot of things that "normal" people shrug off like nothing.

I get a lot of positive attention for my "intellect", but I also have a lot of people tell me that I'm too hard on myself, and that I need to relax. I have rather low self-esteem, I know that I can better myself in a lot of ways, but I lack the drive to do so. So as it remains, there are a few select things I'm good at, and they are pretty much all things that seem effortless to me, even though other people find enough difficulty with them that they are impressed with my talent in those areas.

Um, where am I trying to go with this? :P Oh yeah, people think I'm smart, but I think they give me way too much credit. I do impress myself with my own brilliance at times, but most of the time I just wonder why I am good at things most other people struggle with, and why I struggle with things that most people have no difficulty with.

Most at the time. And it's getting annoying.

Yes. People always said I'm so smart and yet I BARELY graduated high school. I also have trouble managing financial stuff that will probably end up causing me a lot of problems when they catch up with me. I also have trouble with getting myself to make appointments for medical stuff. I can't help but think of myself as stupid because I can't manage relatively simple things. :?
