There really is more kindness than you think.

Cool win by the student!

About five years ago, this kid with Asperger's scored 20 points for his high school team in Greece, New York.

You maybe right about that kraftiekortie but then again I am a lil' jaded due to the fact I've been surrounded by assh0les and people whom have screwed me over....any ways I'm glad for the kid in the video.

The Aspie stereotype is not the Jewish stereotype you know (bad at sports).

Hey Joel,

When I was a kid, I was totally surrounded by a**holes myself. Kids would gather around me in a circle and call me "ret*d" or other insults. I was beaten up a few times. I was bullied in other ways. I was pretty well ostracized (ignored) for virtually all my high school years.

Then I grew up, and realized that kids will be kids. You're an adult now. You could beat the a**holes by proving them wrong.

This is true: you have to have more faith in people. Me having more faith in people (even without much evidence) enabled me to relate to people better. My relating to people better attracted people who were not assholes--they were real people with jobs, families, kids, etc., who have no time to be an a**hole. a**holes are, usually, people who never grow up. They remain kids all of their lives.

If you don't have that initial faith (even if there's no apparent evidence for it), you will never get ahead. I believe this with the fullness of my being. This is because I have lived what I am telling you here.

This was a wonderful story. For many HFA/AS students, any type of sports or PE scenario usually leads to bullying, harassing, getting picked on, getting picked last, etc.
I'm glad that these students let the Preston (the AS student) win first place. Kindness at its best, and Preston will be talking about this for YEARS to come probably!

I never got this happen. I was really unqualified for field day activities and my classmates were overly competitive blowhards so I had at least 2 meltdowns every field day for all of elementary school. I was good at martial art (not well respected by others, although people thought differently about it when they learned my French teacher has a black belt. >:) ) and gymnastics and contortion-ism.
Needless to say, what does this say about positive reinforcement?
