Those of you that were forced to play rounders in PE at school, did it make you feel uneasy or anxious?

I used to hate it. The other kids got a bit passionate about games like that, and would all verbally attack you if you let the team down. I never actually fully understood the game, so I was always slightly vague when playing, even after having it explained to me. I was inattentive and bad at throwing and batting a ball, and also I was shy so I felt embarrassed when it was my turn to bat, or when I was fielding and the ball came near to me.

I could never get out of playing rounders though. I was forced to participate, and the teachers had no idea how socially anxious it made me feel, even though I told them about my feelings.

I much preferred indoor PE. I did enjoy some team games, like playing waterpolo in the swimming-pool, although I never quite know how that game went either but the kids were more amused by the water so they didn't yell at you if you lost the game or something.

Did anyone else dislike playing rounders at school?

I wasn't any good at it but I did like it. I was a fielder - by that I mean way out. I couldn't catch so I was useless on bases. If they had to put me on base it was usually 1st or 3rd. I could throw ok though and was good at throwing in general directions and liked running to get it. I wasn't too bad at batting and could get half a rounder, full if the opposite team was useless. I could run pretty well around the bases. Somehow I was on the school team even though I admittedly sucked but I liked it.

As for my favourite sport, I liked badminton though I'd usually have to play against the wall. I was good at badminton.

Whenever it was bad weather they'd get us all inside the sports hall and we'd play Danish long ball. It was weird and I didn't know the rules too well but it involved even more running which I liked. You're probably spotting a theme but no I didn't like races.

We didn't have a swimming pool at school.

The one thing I hated was dance. Hell no to dance.

I loved rounders. The only thing I didn't like about pe was gymnastics and running. Rounders I thought was incredibly simple compared to some of the other sports. I'm really quite good at sports so that probably had a lot to do with it.

We have a very similar game here called dødball. I wasn't very good at it (or any other sports for that matter), but it was one of my absolute fave things we ever did in P.E. (a subject I didn't care for).

Playing that game was fun. Unlike most aspies it seems, the only sports I ever had fun with were team sports like that.
Those who were really competitive and had to win at any cost and got upset when they lost, really got on my nerve though. I never cared about winning or losing in those games, I just wanted to have fun. Especially one boy in my elementary school class was a pain like that. I also enjoyed dodge ball and land hockey.

Hated it! Oh how I hated it!

I didn't understand it, and I didn't understand the loud and vocal passion of the girls who were loving it.

But then, I hated all sports and P.E classes in school anyway, and school sports classes were one of the major times where I felt it painfully clear to myself that I seemed to lack some kind of "team spirit" gene that other children had.

It was one of the several ways in which I noticed about myself that I'm a loner and "don't get" group activities that other people all thrive upon the bonding experience of. PE was torture to me at that social level, and I used to do anything to get out of them, even convincing my mum to write sick notes.

I loathed rounders, loathed it! And what made it even worse that it was presented as a treat, a fun activity - often for a sunny day at the end of term. My son shares my feelings - he's the one with the diagnosis of Asperger's, I've never been assessed.

Rounders was good. Everyone took their turn, there were logical and straightforward goals and you got to run like hell around a field. What's not to like?
